The time we were students at Tulane,we were all young and poor, but so happy without fear.  Everyone found a joke to tell at dinner table at this motel we worked to support ourselves. I have known Sam for almost 50 years. We went to high school together in Panchiao,Taiwan. Sam was my closest friend back then. We went boating and swimming in Pi-tan (a famous lake resort near Taipei) one summer day when we were in high school. We also went to a student summer camp together sponsored by . Sam and I went to 2 different colleges in Taichung. I visited him on campus one Saturday and stayed in his dorm room with him that night. After coming to the U.S., my wife and I took a road trip to New Orleans in early 1984. Sam was graduating from Tulane at that time and we stayed in his place overnight. He warmly showed us New Orleans streets and introduced Mardi Gras to us. We then drove to Dallas together to visit his relative who was a physician. Sam gladly took my wife and I to the place where JFK was assassinated and gave us a tour. We all stayed in his relative's house that night. That was the last time I saw this very kind man. I always had a good time with him and I'll forever remember the smile on his face.

Sam was a very kind and caring man.  He always greeted people around him with a warm smile and was sincerely interested in their well being.  He was willing to listen and gave well-thought advices.  At church Sam would volunteer and did not mind to get his hands dirty.  He stepped in to help the ushers, taught baptism class, and demonstrated his selflessness and the willingness to serve others.   One time my family and Sam's family happened to dine at the same restaurant, and he was very generous and paid for our meal on his way out.  Sam had a caring heart for the international students, and he spent time talking with them and make them feel like home.  Sam is remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, for his love for God and people.  We know he is smiling in heaven now.  Until we meet again.

It was only a few days apart from my learning of Sam's battling with cancer and passing.  I went from being shocked to deeply saddened. I will miss been greeted by Sam every Sunday morning.  May his beautiful legacy be a great source of comfort and strength to his beloved wife and daughters.

Sam was a kind and godly man. He was someone I could always look up to with respect every week when I saw him. I remember seeing him at church always with a smile on his face. There was no one more welcoming than Sam. 
Personally I am honored to have known him and remember fondly all the times we played tennis at Olympus Hills. I truly believe he made an impact on the life of every person he met. I will miss him greatly and rest assured that he is now with our Lord Jesus Christ. I look forward to the day when we meet again in Heaven.

It is hard to believe it has only been a little over six months since your last trip to Taiwan. I remember every time you return to Taiwan, your favorite food: cold noodles, "bah-won", "gong-won". It was always my pleasure to satisfy your desires for your favorite foods from our childhood. I enjoyed seeing the smile on your face whenever you ate those dishes with me.  Your love of your favorite dishes made me happy whenever I could fulfill your craving. It didn't take much to please you. I wish we could have had more time together so that I could have done more for you.  I did not know how to cherish, precious time as brothers and now it is too late. It reminds me of a television movie ending in the middle rather than going to the end. We can meet again in my sweet dreams. I miss you dearly.

Dear Uncle Sam,
 
I was planning making you weekly checkup calls, to cheer you up, to give you strengh, I believed you would get well.
The news about you leaving us all this sudden, really gave me a shock and brought me great sadness.     I wonder, why does our world operate this way? Why do good man like you leave us early, has God overlooked something? 

In my memory, Uncle Sam was nearly perfect, he had all the strengths I admired, he was a natural athlete, knowledgeable, hard working and family first.

Throughout the many years I have known him, I never seen him angry- All the difficulties that he faced, he smiled back at them with laughter.   
He liked to give people hope, he gave me hope in the last talk we had, he told me things would get better.   
 
I guess we no longer have the luck to keep you around us, maybe, life is a station, we are all travelers, there must be other things that we do after this life and that is why God brought you to the other place to do other great things, like you had always done for him.

I'll miss you, Uncle Sam.
I'll always miss the time when you drove us to Canada in Van, 18 hours of driving, remember the Buffalo Steak you took us to eat and all the good views in Yellow stone park you showed us, indeed one of the best memories I had of all.
I'll not forget how you looked after me while I was in College, how I came to you for advice and you smiled back and gave me some. 
I'll always put in my heart, how you confront difficulties with your brave heart, your faith and smiles.  Wish I could do the same just like you.

I am sure you've gone to a better place, and I am sure, sooner or later, we will all meet again.

Sam, was my sister-in-law, a very kind man, I never saw him angry. He alway had smile on his face.

Sam was a kind and warmhearted brother. We had talked about a friend he helped three decades ago, who happened to be my neighbor. Sam has always been a nice person. My family will miss him.

Just now I read email and know dear Sam Liu left us, I am shocked and sorry. I knew him and his wife in our church and group party. He always smiled. His pace was stable. He and his wife were very kind person. One year I lost job and he gave me very good suggestion how found job.  He taught Sunday School in our church. I have been remembered he gave me a wonderful class about marriage in a Sunday class. He was so patience.

Three unexpected deaths in three years among Utah Chinese christian society, We have to ask God, why ? all these people were cut short in expected life, we started to wondering :" Am I going to be the next one ?" or" Am I ready to go and see God in person ?" or " Have I finished the job that God assigned me to ?"  I hope everyone in Utah Chinese Christian society can work on the job God gave us, so, when God call us to Go, we have no regret !

Sam was always ready to offer help with those in need. Sam could easily start a conversation with anyone because of his gentle heart. We'll miss your genuine, sincere smile and heartfelt kindness.

It's hard to believe Sam, me and a bunch of other church friends were playing basketball a couple month ago. Now Sam is gone. It is very sad and I will surely miss him. But at the same time we all know that he is now rest in God. He is now in a better place, a place that has no pain and suffer, has no fear and tear. Wait for me my dear brother. The day will come that we will play basketball again in heaven (if LORD would allow me to enter his kindom), with no sprain ankle or jam finger, with no back pain or foot blister, only with the tear of joy.

This is Roger Workman...my wife passed away 5 years ago...she was Chinese...her name was Julisa..I attended the church there for 2 years ...Sam befriended me and treated me with great respect.  Each week he went out of his way to greet me. I felt the love in his heart .  He was truly a loving ..kind Christain man... Sam had been a friend to my husband Damon and myself, while Elsa had been the head of the Sunday school which my son attends. Although I know Sam is in a better place and God's will is always good, his passing felt like a great loss. Thinking about the conversations we have had in the past, Sam was always so kind, understanding, and encouraging, often with a smile on his face. A few times, Damon asked Sam for a lift to or from the airport at the last minute and Sam did it without any compliant. He is a Christian who gave witness through his actions. May God comfort and bless his family.

It has been almost 20 years since Sam and I first met on 1995. It was the warm day on tennis court for double tennis, which also started our long-term friendship.  As an international graduate student, the days in Salt Lake City were no doubt boring and long.  Nevertheless, after Sam's show-up, our tennis fellowship just begun to make our days in Salt Lake City so exciting with passion. My first impression was Sam was always smiling.  He looks short, and in age at least 10 years older than us but within minutes after tennis play, we all felt surprisingly that he can hit ball so fast, and we all agreed to call him Big Brother, Liu.  This fellowship last at least 5 years, and Sam was so hospitable to make every match possible.  In my memory, Sam loved to do hands-on work at home.  As such as a tennis lover, not surprisingly one day I heard he also bought a cheap and 2nd tennis machine from the east coast and repaired many times to get it work.  It was this special string machine to bring Sam's family and us even closer. I and another close friend visited Sam's house very often due to the frequency we broken our tennis strings. Sam always encourage, and warm-welcomed us to visit his family. He helped us to string racket and later trained us how to do it (many years after I also did the same thing as I learned from Sam how to string tennis racket).  It was such happy times to chat together regarding lifestyle and sports surrounding us.  In tennis part, he was very knowledgeable in tennis, and taught us his experience in tennis league including his dad's, and other friends' tennis playstyle. He ever won 3.5 single champion in intermountain and I can felt he was excited his accomplishment. I also recalled Sam arranged tennis camp with his coach friend from Japan.  There were many events like this in our tennis circle and in doing so we explored deeper and deeper in tennis fellowship. We had many dinners together in various restaurants after tennis practice, drank beer and relaxed on the couch (sometime in his house).  Sam was also a great daddy to his two daughters.  I recalled one time we ski together with his older daughter Tiffany. In facing one small black-line downhill trail, he demonstrated his love to Tiffany. I thought he was aged to ski on difficult trail but as a father he was so brave and encouraged his little daughter to ski with him even he knew he will fall down.  Our life path may be shortened into any sport competition such a tennis match, ski, basketball etc. What I knew about Sam was through sport activity and I felt his warm heart and sense of humor. In my memory I did not know he is a Christian yet I felt he did what the Christian is more-like.  Sam will be deeply memorized in our heart. May he be rest in peace!

It's been said that you may not remember what a person said, but you'll always remember how they made you feel. 

Sam was no different.

I can't remember a single conversation we've had, but I'll never forget the smile he rocked when we had them. It's that smile I'll remember him most for, the way it made the world feel all right.

I look forward to the day we'll get to hang out in eternity, even as I mourn his loss here on earth. The world could do with a few more Sam Lius.  I'm pained by my absence from his official memorial, but nonetheless, in my small corner of the world, I'll raise a glass in honor of a man who loved God and His people. 

Here's to you, Sam.

How long is 34 years? Sam and I have known each other over 34 years!

We met in the fall of 1980 when both of us were studying for a Master Degree in the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.  We were housemates sharing a "big white house".  
  
Sam was an enthusiastic person and I was a follower.  Sam was always willing in helping new students from Taiwan and China. We were voluntary "movers".

We were among a very few Taiwanese students who enjoyed playing tennis.  The shared love of tennis served a natural bond in our friendship.  Even years after leaving Alabama, somehow we were always able to reach each other.  "Have you played tennis lately?" has become one of our first few exchanges when we got on the phone.

Sam visited me whenever he came to Los Angeles.  We would occasionally go to night clubs for some fun in our single days.  Life took a turn after we each got married and had children, family became the centers of our lives.  We saw less of each other for a while. In year of 2000, I suggested to Sam for a get-together in Las Vegas.  We stayed at Hilton Hotel so we could play tennis on the rooftop courts.  We had a lot of fun playing husbands-and-wives tennis, and kids enjoyed a good time playing together at Circus Circus.  It was a very fond memory full of fun for the two families.

Ten years ago I bought a house just a short distance away from Sam's.  My neighbors curiously asked me why I chose Salt Lake City for retirement over Orange County, California where I am currently residing.  I told them "because my best friend lives here".

Sam loved food, particularly good food, while I usually went for something simple.   However Sam always let me choose where to go eat.  He was always  an easy-goer.

Sam first mentioned about the loss of appetite and feeling discomfort in stomach at Highland High tennis courts four months ago.  Let believe it was just  symptoms of stomach flu, little did I know that it would sadly turn out the last time we played tennis together!

Time flies! 34 years has passed in a glimpse.  I'll never forget Sam.  I'll cherish our every memorable moments and may him rest in peace!

Sam was a true example of a great dad.  His love for his daughters was evident in everything he did.  He truly was a wonderful man, who could get any person to be his friend.  Sam was always an extremely thoughtful, welcoming, and friendly individual. When we went to visit him in the hospital one of the first things he asked was how we were doing.  He was one of the first people to make me feel truly welcome into the family. (Zane)   

I will always remember how often he would take his family skiing, hiking, to play tennis, swimming, on vacations, and other things to make sure his family was well rounded and cultured growing up.  (Jenny)

We will miss his smile and the joy he brought just being in his presence.  What a truly wonderful man.

"Even at a time of such an unexpected loss, love and beautiful memories of Sam endure and they will remain with me forever.  I could not have asked for a better brother.  He was so giving and caring and so easy to get along with. He had a habit of just taking a deep breath and waling away whenever a situation arose that might be controversial. Our parents and other family members and neighbors thought very highly of him for his good nature, big smile and helping ways. He had a knack for making people laugh with him. It is my prayer that we all will be reunited again as a family.

Elsa, Tiffany and Katherine you are part of my family and we will stick together and comfort each other during this difficult time. I will always be here for you.

I was baptized at SLCCCC in 2008 and shortly thereafter Sam began to teach me during bible study.  I am grateful for the wisdom that he carefully shared with me.

Today a new memory, nonetheless, his image unalterable,
So vivid is his presence in our hearts and minds that he cannot truly be gone.
Still in his prime, with so much left to give, why leave us so soon?
Days numbered by Heaven, disclosed to none.

His loving wife and daughters are heartbroken over his loss.
Friends and family shed tears. 
Brothers and sisters in Christ saddened.  
Preserved and cherished are the precious memories of his years.  

Simple, strong, sincere in his life,
Facing ups and downs with ease, light and dark ebbed and flowed like the tide.
Kind and open, humble and gentle, 
Unassuming, optimistic with great foresight;

A loyal son, a devoted husband, a caring father, and
A mindful friend of friends, a friend to all!
The very day he was saved, the grace of God filled his heart.  
He was born again, leaving his old self behind in response to the Lord's call.
Blessings from heaven flooded; the love of the Lord flowed through him.   
Two respectable daughters raised by two Godly parents,
Spirit of joy, heart of peace,
He loved God with all of his being and to the Lord devoted his talents.
Now he savors the sweetness of paradise

Although Sam is my nephew, he has been more like a brother to me. His mother was my mother's niece and the two of them grew up like sisters so we were raised together as brothers rather than uncle - nephew. Sam is one of the most gracious, courteous and humble people I have ever known. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. Although we are only 5 years apart in age, sam always referred to me and my brothers as "uncle" even my youngest brother is younger then him. Sam was a soft spoken person but everybody met him could have sense of his genuine,honest man and integrity. We will miss him dearly and may he rest in peace.

Sam was my brother-in-law for almost 19 years and I admired him greatly.  He was small in stature but a giant in heart, love, respect and helpfulness. Another sturdy redwood in God's forest has fallen but where it proudly stood and how it was loved and admired will always be remembered. Sam is now in the world of the living, never to have to die again and I can testify that we will see and associate with him once more. He never had to be asked to do something for you. He seemed to sense your need and willingly volunteered to help. One bitter cold day when he really wasn't feeling well, he came over and helped get my snow blower working again and even though he lived on the other side of the valley that did not seem to matter. Our families had many good times together over the years and I cannot remember any time that Sam didn't have a smile on his face or wasn't in a good mood. He was amazing. He was and still is a wonderful Christian who will receive his just reward for the good he did in the world. His life was one of love and service. He was very smart, athletic, jovial and especially loving.  He adored Elsa, Tiffany and Katherine and was so proud of their accomplishments. He particularly enjoyed just being with them whenever he could and wherever life took them.  I wish I could be the type of husband and father he was.  The best way I and others can truly honor him is by trying to be like him as we interact with our families, friends and any others.  I will certainly miss him but will remember his goodness and the happy times when I had the privilege and blessing of being in his company. He set the bar high with his example. Elsa, Tiffany and Katherine, will be in my prayers during this difficult time for them. May they be blessed with peace, comfort and wonderful memories.

When I first started going to SLCCC, I found it intimidating to interact with elders and other senior people at church.  With Sam, it was different.  The first time I met Sam I thought he was just a regular church-goer like myself.  He always greeted me with a gentle smile and a small comment would get a laugh out of me.

I'm shocked to received this new as I had no idea he was suffering and kept it all inside.  As far as I can remember there was not a single time he didn't show his friendliness or his willingness to serve God and others, while going through his personal battlers.  This just tells the character of the person he was and lives in our hearts.

I will always remember his polo shirts and khaki pants, his small eyes and younger Sammo Hung haircut, but above all his warm welcoming smile. 

My heart saddens and aches to see Sam go. God lent him to serve us on earth but needed him back to do greater things by His side on Heaven.  I will cherish every moment I got to interact with Sam and to how privileged I was to have known him and call him a friend.  I only wish I had the opportunity to shake his hand one last time. 

My sincere condolences to Elsa and daughters

I was deeply impressed by the gentle voice and smile since the first time I met Hsien-Ming Liu at the dorm room in National Chung-Hsin University. since then we had  shared 4 years of learning academically, socially, even personal life together. Now I just surprisingly discover that I can not find any image in my memory to show that Hsien-Ming was angry or discouraged by any encounters. All I remember was he bent his head with half closed eye lids and prayed to re-collect his emotions. This is the skill I will never learn in my whole life.
  He always made himself available to everyone in our class during the full 4 years university life, never complained, never asked for any return, just keep giving, giving and giving. He was such a wonderful gifted classmate. I miss you! 
  Now I think it is the time for all of our classmates make themselves available to the loves he left behind, Elsa, Tiffany and Katherine. At least I know I am available.
  Liu family, please take very good care of yourselves, and I believe that is Hsien-Ming Liu deeply wants. Be sure to do that.

It was a privilege to be a classmate and a friend of Sam.  I am one of Sam's classmates from Chung-Hsing University, Plant Pathology class 1971 in Taiwan.  I got to know Sam really well after our 30 years class reunion in 2006 and the US class reunion in 2012, much more so than our time together at the college. 

With Sam and his family living in Salt Lake City and I live in Pocatello Idaho, I became a routine visitor to Sam and Elsa.  I was invited to stop by his house every time I drove by Salt Lake City on my way to visit my dad in a nursing home in California.  And we got together every time his church friends traveled to Idaho State University in Pocatello for the Chinese Bible class or the church retreats.  Last summer, Sam, Elsa and their neighbors were in Pocatello for the Chinese Bible church and we got together at my vocation home in Pocatello. We visited whole afternoon outside on the patio and had such wonderful time. That was the last time I saw him in person.  Sam called me a few months ago mentioned his family trip to Taiwan and the heart problem he had.  That was the last time I got to visit with him over the phone.
  
It is heartbroken to lose a friend and a classmate whom I just came to enjoy knowing so well in the past ten years.  I will always remember his gentle smile, sincere attitude, and most of all, a devoted Christian who impacted so much on others.  My deepest condolences to Elsa, Tiffany, and Katherine. May God bless this family.

Brother Hsien-Ming was hurried away, heartbreaking We met less than two years, but hit it off each other. His sincere, friendly smile are in the deep of my heart. Almost every Sunday, we can see his shadow at the entrance. Our hands clasped each other every time. . . Separated by death, the former friend aims to become remembered. Sorry not to see him last time! Wish him with peace  on the road all the way to heaven! Hsine-Ming, if you can hear, I would like to tell you that your family is not alone, because the Lord and us- brothers and sisters!

The 2 year friendship in Utah with Sam's family has become an unforgettable journey in our lives. He had a genuine heart with sweet smiles. He loved God,  people, foods, and God's creations. He embraced his life with positive and active attitude. We still remember he taught us how to enjoy a good taste of blue mountain coffee. We are blessed to know him and thank God for leaving his foot prints on our life journey.

I met Sam in Oct 2007. Sam parked in space #4 and I in #3 in the parking lot.  We would arrive about the same time each day. We walked together into the office exchanging weekend memories, our children's progress with education, college or sports, and the woe's of getting older.  

Often we would have conversations at the copier or the hot/cold water dispenser where he would fill his tea pot for tea.  He loved to talk about traveling and the places he went with his family.  He talked about Taiwan and St. Louis.  He loved the road trips. He was so proud of his daughters, Tiffany and Katherine and their accomplishments.  His oldest daughter was studying accounting. When she graduated she got a really good job with a big accounting firm.  His youngest was studying at the U and was looking for what she wanted to be. He loved talking about ice hockey because of his association with the Limb family. Cooper and Shawn played hockey together. He brought great smelling lunches to work.  The aromas from those lunches will be missed. He would say his wife made a good dinner last night.

Last summer I asked what trips he had planned and with a bit of sadness he said "no traveling lately because of a few health conditions."  I shared my troubles with my own health and we both agreed to get better so we could do what we loved to do. 

Sam had a sincere desire to know how people were doing, what he could do to help or how to comfort them. His sweet smile, gentle disposition and spirited wave will be missed.  I believe he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, preparing for his loved ones and will be waiting to greet them when it is their time to join him. Rest in peace, Sam, my friend.. as we celebrate your memory and life!

Dear Hsien-Ming,Sam,
I missed you so much, I couldn't image you gone so earlier than I expected, still remember the day you married Yu-Hsiu and I was driving wedding-car on the way from Banchiao to Taipei for you couple then creating your new family. You stayed in USA for long years, each time while you returned back Taipei you never forgot to contact me in the meantime send me golf-shirts as souvenirs for that I always appreciated. we had been together driving to Taichung to see our classmates there, we enjoyed our foods in restaurents Taipei ; most especially  at earlier days you shared my business work to pick my customers up to airport , still remember one time you drove my car to airport with overspeed and caught by patrol car, you showed them your American Licence finally they waved you to leave, ha, many old stories between you and me now flied to my mind; always both us could see each other once in a year BUT now really I could not believe you had gone and never with us, Your gentle smile will be always in my mind, May God bless you with love and peace, also May God take care of your wife ELSA, Tiffany, Katherine and your families. I will remember Sam most for his genuine joy as he always had a smile. He also cared deeply for the people in his life. Personally, he always greeted me at church and we shared many conversations. More recently, as I was looking for work transitioning from training, Sam was helpful in this process. He had talked to my current manager on several occasions, for which I will ever be grateful. Although I know that you are in paradise with our Lord Jesus Christ, you will still be missed for the time being. Because of our glorious hope in Christ, I know that one day you'll be greeting me once again with that joyful smile.

I only Met Sam a couple of times, but he seemed a very kind, genuine person.  The way I knew him best, was through his wife Elsa.  I have worked with Elsa for many years, and loved hearing her talk of how he was a great father and husband, and always helping the neighbors; and helping with church projects.  I wish Elsa and her Daughters solace in their loss, and a peaceful journey for a wonderful soul taken from us too soon.

Things I remember about Sam;June 23, 2015

Quite Often I called him Sammy.  Good Morning Sammy or something of the like.  Sammy would always return the comment with a huge grin and a chuckle.  Sam was very studious, very reserved, very quiet and always polite.  Sam was, oh so smart; much smarter than myself.  Sam and I would engage in conversation beyond the formalities of hi, hello, how are ya, etc.  He was so gifted in technical, detailed knowledge.  He would try to explain different technical things and I would caution him to slow down and speak on a level that I could understand.  Sam and I planned to have lunch on several occasions, unfortunately, for one reason or another we could never make it happen.  I regret this as it would have been nice to engage in dialogue other than the mundane utility regulation. Somewhere, 30 to 40 days ago Sam began to look noticeably ill.  During this time period he would come to me and ask questions about retirement, medical insurance, medicare, F.M.L.A leave, etc.  I don't know why he came to me, but in retrospect I was honored to help him.  It was evident that his health was declining rapidly, but Sam carried on with his assigned work tasks, reassuring me that everything would be okay and he was on the mend.  I guess while I was on vacation, I heard that Sam was hospitalized; and then surprise and shock that he had passed.  A sad day at the Division.  A sad day for his family and loved ones.  A sad day for me.  Sam is my friend.  I will miss him.

A few weeks ago I told Sam that he was a good man and that our family will be praying for him.  He started at the Division a few months before I did.  He had a great smile and we used to talk to each other on our way to our cars in the parking area.  We will miss him a lot, but I believe we will see him again someday in eternity.

It was a privileged to have known and worked with Sam. He will be missed. Sam was one of the co-workers whom has welcomed me when I started working for the state. He would always come by my office to chat and say hi and asked about my love life :-) Sam always had a smile on his face. My prayers and thoughts and may his soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to all the loved ones he left behind...with deepest sympathy.

Sam was a quiet and humble man. He was cheerful and always had a smile on his face.  However, the last month you could see the worry in his eyes and you could tell he was enduring something very difficult. I am sorry for his passing and my condolences go to his family. He will be missed.

I am grateful to call Sam my brother-in-law. 
Sam was a good husband to my sister, Elsa.  He was faithful, caring, responsible, mature, committed, respectful, etc.  Most importantly though, He loved my sister unconditionally. Sam and Elsa were living in submission to Jesus Christ and they are both walking in love.
Sam was an amazing father to his children. He cared for his children each and every day by working very hard to help pay their tuition and by taking time to teach them important life lessons that only come with experience. He had stressed the importance of being a good person and what that entails, which therefore has pushed Tiffany and Katherine to live up to their parents' expectations. 
Sam was such a hardworking person. He was always ready to get his hands dirty. He accepted the challenges set before him and did not complain.  He always was willing to do the work, and not only do it, but do it right, and finished the job. 
Sam was a caring, loving man. In regards to other people, Sam was always willing to take time to help other people. He was willing to listen to other people's problems and joy. He was kind, compassionate, trustworthy, and generous. Yet, these characteristics do not fully define the true meaning of him.  
Sam's death leaves heartache no one can heal, his love leaves a memory no one can steal. Words, can't mend all of our sadness, but I wish Elsa, Tiffany and Katherine may find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends.

Sam and I had so many conversations as we shared many interests. Sam shared his tea with me and taught me how to make a proper pot. I will miss Sam and our conversations.

Sam was kind, considerate, intelligent, and caring.  He was a true family man and always mentioned how proud he was of his two daughters.  It has been my pleasure to work with Sam and to know him.

My sympathies are with his family during this difficult time.  Please remember the kind, loving memories that we each have as Sam touched our lives.

I have known and worked with Sam for the last 10 years. I remember we went mountain biking once. It was his first time and he fell a lot, but never gave up or complained. Every time he fell, he got up, dusted himself off and got back on his bike with his usual smile. I will always remember his courage, sincerity, and smile.
We were planing to go for a lunch once he was done with his chemotherapy. As much sadness and helplessness as I have felt since his passing, I can't imagine how difficult it must be for his family......Hang in there!!!!!

I was always impressed at how many things in the world Sam found interesting. I travelled with him occasionally on business trips and he was a good friend and very capable state employee. My condolences to the family with a reminder that Sam will always be in the hearts and minds of those of us who knew him.

I remember playing basketball with him and his daughter. Great times and always a happy spirit.

Sam was an awesome 'uncle' at the church.  He always had a big smile to brighten up anyone's day.  He will be missed!

To Sam's family, 
I met Sam 15-20 years ago at Questar. I was impressed with his intellect and good nature. His technical research skills in the lab provided the gas industry with data on new appliance technology, piping and other related products to help serve and protect users of natural gas. He retired and moved on a few years ago but I had the opportunity to see him occasionally. He always made it a point to say hello and ask how I was doing. He was kind, respectful, honorable and always offered a cheerful smile. He loved his family, his work and his life. I will miss him.I hope the memories of him will keep your hearts full until you see him again. My prayers are with you.
