The loving life of Jan Hayes Thierbach came to a close on September 3, 2022. Jan was an accomplished woman, handling whatever life gave her with bravery and compassion. She was an example to all who met her of how to navigate the different paths of life, some smooth and some rough, with acceptance and grace.
Throughout her life, Jan was a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. After her own mother’s death, she spent countless hours taking her father to dinner and other activities to ensure he would not be lonely. She rejoiced in her children and grandchildren and was extremely proud of their many accomplishments.
Jan was famous for her cinnamon pull-aparts at Christmas which she shared with her whole ward and all her neighbors. People didn’t want to move from the neighborhood simply because of those rolls. Her contribution of homemade peppermint ice cream to family Fourth of July celebrations was epic and could not be matched.
An extraordinary bowler, Jan was a member of the Country Club Ladies Bowling League, where, even after her eyesight failed, she consistently amazed with her scores. She was a valued player on whatever team she was assigned. Jan loved dressing in costume for the Halloween Bowling Party and was always admired for her clever homemade costumes. As her health declined, the women of the bowling league became an even more cherished part of her social life.
A talented seamstress, Jan loved to both crochet and do machine sewing. She continually created clothing for her grandchildren and kids in the neighborhood. She also sewed clothes for her granddaughters’ dolls and loved making outfits of any kind. Whether a baby’s sweater or a doll’s dress, she was delighted to make them. Jan was also an artist, and her paintings hang in the homes of many of her family and friends.
A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jan was vigilant in her church duties. Along with Arno, her wonderful husband of fifty-seven years, she relished her church activities and friends in the ward.
Jan was truly dedicated to her family and friends. There was never a time when she uttered an unkind word about anyone. As her physical challenges continued to mount, her life was an example to all of kindness, dignity, and perseverance to the end. She was a role model for living the Golden Rule. Jan was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Survived by her loving husband, Arno and five children: Stacie Loyd (Mike), Marci Call (James), Ryan Thierbach, Janae Lockhart (Scott), Jannalyn Slack (Erik); five grandchildren, Scott Loyd (Courtney), Kodie Osterberg, Jessica Loyd, Charley Osterberg, Connor Brigante; one great-grandchild, Everest; three siblings; Kay Shean (Fred, deceased 2015), Mike Hayes (Kathryn) and Jill Bischoff (Kevin.)
