

Jane Openshaw Hawkins, Daughter of Eugene and Jennie Openshaw passed away on June 14th, 2025, returning home to her Father in Heaven and Reuniting with her two sons, Matthew and Zachary, after a life filled with love, faith, and devoted service.
From her childhood onward, Jane's life was a reflection of goodness, grace, and quiet excellence. Her days were woven with acts of kindness--to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers--not as a duty, but as a way of life. It was a daily way of living for her.
Jane was married to her sweetheart, Charles "Ted" Hawkins for 62 beautiful years. a partnership rooted in shared testimony and enduring devotion. Together they raised 4 children: Jennifer Hawkins Gardner (Bret), Matthew Edward Hawkins, Zachary Adam Hawkins and Emily Jane Hawkins. Her beautiful grandchildren: Lauren Nicole Wilmarth (Matthew), Whitney Jane Gardner, Marron Olivia Gardner, Asher Thomas Hawkins Marcus, Sophie Jayne Marcus; and Great Grandchildren: Lincoln Matthew Wilmarth, Olivia Jane Wilmarth and Jackson Bret Wilmarth.
Jane as a child performed in dancing, cheerleading and even baton twirling in school. She worked her way through beautician school to pay for college. She would do the hair of the wives of the apostles, and especially the wife of David O. Mckay.
Jane was a light to her family--a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter--and a blessing to all that knew her. Her presence brought warmth, love, and joy wherever she went.
Jane was deeply talented. She was exceptional at cooking which was known by many. She made each meal special. She was gifted at crochet. Each project was a masterpiece. As she received new gifts she would develop them, so as not to lose them.
She loved her Savior and Father in Heaven dearly.There was never a time she did not have one or more callings to teach or perform on her Father in Heaven's behalf. She truly is a disciple of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jane loved her home she designed. She loved gardening and enjoyed watching each flower grow. As it started to bloom, she would pause to stand and watch it give its gift of beauty to her and the world.
Jane was a prolific reader. She especially loved learning about the prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony was profound and evergrowing. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ and her Father in Heaven.
We love you, Jane. Thank you for all you have given each of us. You are a very special wife, mother, daughter, grandma, and great grandma. You are a gift to all who ever knew you. Because of you, our lives are better.
A funeral service for Jane will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Millcreek Canyon Ward, 3510 S 3610 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84109. A visitation will occur earlier that morning from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
