Jerrie was born on February 4, 1932, in Honolulu, Hawaii to her parents, Fisher J. Smith and Marie Daynes Smith. Jerrie and her parents moved back to Salt Lake City in 1934, where she was raised. Jerrie had fond memories of living with her Grandmother Smith, while her father served in the Army during WWII.
After the war, Jerrie’s family moved to Provo. It was there that Jerrie attended and graduated from Brigham Young University.
On August 20, 1952, Jerrie married our father, Kenneth (Kay) Randall. Together they had 64 years of adventure! In 1964, Mom and Dad moved our family to Washington, DC, where Dad served a six-year term as Chairman of the FDIC. As Dad’s career grew, we moved to Richmond, Virginia and New Canaan, Connecticut. After retirement, our parents moved back to Virginia, however, Utah was always in their hearts. They built a second home in Park City and spent many happy years entertaining family and friends. In addition to family, they loved hosting get-togethers with the Dinner Club, made up of couples from their college days.
Jerrie continued to live in their Saint George condo after Dad died in 2016.
Our parents had a true sense of adventure, and they traveled the world together. The backroads of Utah, the state that they both loved, was their favorite destination.
Jerrie’s favorite outdoor activity was always a great picnic! We all still savor the meals she would make and served out of the car. She passed that love onto her daughters, as well as her love of travel!
Jerrie is survived by her sister, Karen Smith, of Saint George. She is also survived by her three daughters: Shelly Millard (Ralph), Nancy Mackey (David), and Tami Relick (Jeffrey). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staff of The Meadows at Escalante and Zions Way Hospice for the compassionate care and love shown to our mother over the last year.
We will have a private family burial at a later date at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City.
If you would like to honor our mother, go outside with a picnic, and spend time with your loved ones.
