Joan Taysom Clark was born on August 28, 1939 to Reed and Billie Taysom in Ogden Utah. Joan returned home on June 28th 2023 in South Jordan, Utah after a 6 month battle with ALS (Lou Gherigs disease).
Joan attended Ben Lomond High School and went on to do a year of college at Weber State. Joan married Thomas E. Cummings and later divorced. They had 3 children. Later in life Joan married Carl Lewis Clark on July 29, 2000 in St. George, Utah and was later sealed in St. George Utah temple.
Joan was an adoring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was everything to her, she devoted her life to the Lord and started a chain of multi-generational covenant keepers. Joan served the Lord in many ways including as Relief Society President, Young Women’s President and a Temple and Family History Missionary.
Joan started a successful chocolate business 36 years ago supplying hotels, restaurants, shops and many LDS wards for Mother’s and Father’s Day. Her chocolate turtles were famous all over Utah.
As an avid gardener she loved to work in the soil and talk to the bees. Her gourmet cooking skills were unparalleled. She thrived on cooking with and for her family and gathering everyone in her home to make memories and shower everyone with her love.
Joan also had a passion for decorating and turned every home she lived in into a beautiful and welcoming sanctuary. Joan and Carl loved to entertain their friends and beat everyone else at card games. Joan traveled the world but particularly loved all things French.
Always a woman of style and class, she taught her grandchildren etiquette by holding fancy tea parties for them.
Joan was an accomplished dancer and actress, we know she is tap dancing now with her late son, Tim. Au revoir Gigi, nous t’amions.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Reed Delose Taysom and Elma “Billie” Taysom; her sister, Sherrie Lee and her son, Thomas “Tim” Edward Cummings V. She is survived by her husband, Carl Lewis Clark II; her brother, Scott (Susan) Taysom; her daughters, Karin Lee Cummings (Mike) Brosnan, Tiffany Leigh Cummings (Kelly) Kennedy. Daughter in law Liz Cummings, her stepdaughters Laurie Clark and Kimberly Clark (Jeff) Sharp as well as her 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on July 6, 2023 from 9-10:30 AM at the Sugar Plum Ward (450 West 3650 South Washington, Utah 84780). The services will follow at 11 AM. Interment be at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George Utah immediately following services.
