SGM (Ret.) Joe P. Hoggan 78, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, following a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. Born March 24, 1947, he was the beloved son of Gordon and Louise Hoggan.
After graduating from Highland High School in 1965, Joe spent a year at Utah State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army. An exceptional trumpet player, he earned a coveted spot in the prestigious Sixth U.S. Army Band. Over the next three decades he served in a wide variety of roles, but what he cherished most was mentoring and counseling young soldiers-a passion that earned him the deep and lasting respect of all who served with him.
Upon returning to Utah, Joe became a beloved fixture in Kearns and West Valley City, managing storage facilities with his trademark warmth. His affable smile and genuine kindness turned customers into lifelong friends and left an enduring mark on the community. An avid golfer, he logged countless joyful hours on the fairways and proudly served as a marshal at Stonebridge Golf Club, where his easy laugh and steady presence were as welcome as a perfect drive.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Carla; children Joe, Nicholas, and Jessica; and his adored granddaughters Reece and Carys. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Louise, and his sister, Suzie.
Joe P. Hoggan will be deeply missed yet forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and gracious friend whose quiet strength and infectious grin brightened every room.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106, US, on June 8, 2026, at 11:00 am.
