He was born in Salt Lake City, UT on December 24, 1961 to Raymond Cornell Vest and Bonnie Ardell Riding Vest. He was the fourth of six children. John grew up and lived in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City.
John graduated from West High School in 1980 and later went on to attend Salt Lake Community College. He married Lori Lee Anderson on June 13, 1985 in Salt Lake City UT. Although they later divorced, Lori was always the love of his life.
John was fortunate enough to have 4 amazing children. Jennifer Lee, Justin John, Austin Ray, and Kaden Lee. Jennifer was such a light in his life and each one of his boys have his contagious dimpled smile that can light up any room.
John had 5 grandchildren, Cerenity, Devin, Braylinn, Bentley, and Ryker. He loved when he was able to spend time with them.
It was very well known that John was quite the handyman. He loved to research and was very determined as he succeeded in fixing just about anything he set his mind to! He was a wonderful car mechanic and loved to use those skills to help others. He also enjoyed woodworking and left many treasures behind for his family to enjoy.
John had a great sense of humor. He always had a good joke or funny video to share. He really loved to make others smile!
John took care of his mother the last few years of her life, until she passed away on October 18, 2021. This was a great blessing to her and to the rest of the family.
John’s son, Justin John Vest, also passed away this year in January. His heart completely broke as he suffered such a great loss over the last few months. We are grateful to know that he is reunited with his parents and beloved son.
John was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Bonnie, and his son Justin John Vest. He will be greatly missed by his children Jennifer (Matt) Horner, Austin (Sierra) Vest, and Kaden Vest, as well as his beautiful grandchildren, Cerenity, Devin, Braylinn, Bentley, and Ryker. John is also survived by his siblings Bruce (Deanie), Sheri, Dean, Jaleen (Frank), and Mark. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins who have wonderful memories of John.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 11 at 11:00am, at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Wednesday morning from 10:00–10:45am, also at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
