Joseph “Scott” Wagner, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 3, 2024 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on September 7, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents, Joseph Jacob Wagner and June Grace Robinson Wagner. He married Heidi Luskin on April 18, 1969 in the Salt Lake temple.
Scott was a loving husband, father, and friend. His wife Heidi was his greatest treasure. She was the love of his life from the moment they met until his spirit returned to Paradise. She was steadfastly by his side for 55 years.
He was a man of great strength and bravery, a humble leader, mentor, and provider. Scott was a man of great faith and service. A proud veteran, Mr. Union Pacific Railroad himself, and a member of the bishopric in his church. All of his roles, he graciously filled.
He fearlessly and most likely sarcastically blazed his own trail without regard to the opinions of others. A trait he valiantly passed down to his children. He was a kind and patient mentor. Scott had a phenomenal artistic talent. It was truly inspirational to witness him create from an idea to reality the most beautiful designs thoughtfully and meticulously crafted out of wood. Woodturning was not a hobby for him. It was his calling. His passion. He truly loved it. He adored his woodworking community and his craft with his whole heart. It truly was magic.
Not only was he an artist at heart, he was a genius at all thing technical or mechanical. He could fix anything and he was determined to solve any challenge.
Scott had a sharp wit and a stellar dry sense of humor that would lighten the heaviest of situations.
He was a sensitive, dog-loving guy, who adored a good romantic comedy and any Hallmark Christmas movie. A huge fan of ZZ Top and The Beach Boys, he’d never pass up listening to classic Christmas songs on repeat.
Scott truly cared deeply about everyone in his life, his family, his woodworking buddies and his church, especially, Heidi. His relationships were deep rooted and his absence will leave a vast and painful void, but we will always cherish, honor, and love the amazing man that he was. He will be missed beyond comprehension, but we will find comfort in knowing we will be together again.
Scott is survived by his wife: Heidi Wagner; children: Rebecca (Stone) Alisa, Heather (Ron) Lance, Gretchen (Jason) Hooks, Joseph (Janna) Wagner, April (Jason) Robinson, and Ashley (Jason) Largo; siblings: Denise (Rod) Ursin, Diane Jensen, and Robert Wagner; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Carolyn, Susan, and Lane.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106, followed by an interment.
