1927-2021
For 62 years, Mother and Father danced through life together. She the perfect counterpoint to him and he to her. All who knew them saw this great dance. For the last 9 years, She has danced alone. With failed eyesight and failing memory she danced on, with a smile and laugh and faith and prayers for all, she whirled through life serving and loving everyone. And she was loved and cared for by many, she brightened the lives of all she came in contact with, and as Paul said, "fought the good fight". Until today, she finally once again curtsied to my Father's bow, embraced again and together they danced. Goodbye Mom, for a little while.
The daughter of a small-town doctor, Joyce learned to serve at an early age and spent her life caring for all around her. A devoted member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, she was always interested in her ancestors and served for over 20 years in the Salt Lake Temple. She held many leadership positions in her church which gave her ample opportunities to serve those in need. For years she worked as a lunch lady at a local elementary school and knew the name of each child, always on the lookout for those she could brighten.
She lifted the downtrodden and cheered the weary. Mourned with those who mourned and gave comfort and help to those who were ill.
Joyce was aptly named. Her cheerful nature and always positive attitude were example to all around her. An angel has gone home.
She is survived by her four sons, Elbert Roger (Cindy) Curtis, Bruce Vernon (Carol) Curtis, Robert Houston (Cheryl) Curtis and Martin Houston (Keri) Curtis. 14 grandchildren: Krista Curtis, Christina Hinman, Kelly Curtis, Jeremy Curtis, Kimberly Tafoya, Chris Curtis, Laura Terry, Holly Chambers, Alex Curtis, Bradley Curtis, Eric Curtis, Jamie Curtis, Kasey Curtis and Heather Nielsen. 31 great grandchildren: Gracey, Sydnee, Sophie, Korver, Ruby, Issac, Charlotte, Pryson, Trayden, Dillon, Kyler, Halie, Ashton, Parley, Vienna, Whitley, Mabel, George, Blakley, Kate, Nixon, Bronco, Connor, Alexis, Kasen, Eliza, Norman, Olivia, Finn, Sawyer and Jane.
