Born May 5, 1926 in San Francisco, California to Constantine Alexion and Maria Delakis, she passed away peacefully June 8, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Kaleope was an only child of Greek immigrants and spoke of learning English with no formal teaching and having a simple childhood. Kaleope married Mike Joseph Sargetakis in 1948 in San Francisco, California. They moved to Utah to help start the family business, Silver State Suppliers, with Mike’s brothers. There, she spent many years working side by side with her husband and extended family, and made many friendships in her business life. Mike and Kal had three wonderful children and were happily married for 34 years until Mike’s passing on September 21, 1982.
Kal was loved by all who knew her, and was always quick with a smile and a laugh. She said she was an original hippy, growing up with her cousins, the Delis family, in San Francisco close to Haight Ashbury. Her Greek community of family and friends enriched her life. In later years, she square danced regularly and traveled the world. Her home was always a gathering place for family, friends, and laughter, especially around the holidays, and the grandchildren looked forward to her homemade strawberry shortcake on their birthdays. Kal loved having a margarita to celebrate her own birthday; she was born on Cinco de Mayo. Full of life and joy, she was always prepared with a good joke, especially to get a laugh out of her coffee buddies. May her memory be eternal.
Kal is survived by her children, Mary Cowan-Klein (Rich), Denise Vilven (Douglas), Joseph M. Sargetakis (Paula); grandchildren, Jason Cowan (Kristin), Nicholas Cowan (Michael Pollak), Mike Vilven (Rachel), Dede Vilven, Pauline Kaleope Sargetakis (Jonathan Williams), Mike Sargetakis (Sarah Martin); great-grandchildren Olivia and Sam Cowan, and Eli Vilven.
