She was born September 16, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard Marlow “Dick” Peacock, Jr. and Connie Kimball Peacock, the eldest of their four children. She grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and graduated from Brighton High School. Music filled her teenage years — she sang, played the guitar, and loved to perform. She never pursued it professionally, but she never stopped singing, most often while going about her day or driving in the car.
Kathie married Steven Terry on November 7, 1975, and together they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple — a covenant that anchored the life and family they built on the gospel of Jesus Christ. This past November, surrounded by those they love, they celebrated fifty years of marriage.
Kathie was talented in many ways, and it showed in every job she held. She was a gifted hairdresser — trained at Continental Beauty School, an instructor at the International Institute of Hair Design, and the owner of her own salons over the years. When she wanted to be home with her children, she added a salon to their home so she could do both at once, and the friendships she formed behind the chair lasted long after the last haircut. Her creativity later carried her to DJ Inkers, where she worked as a product specialist, teaching classes and training others to use the company’s clip art and stamps in the days before digital scrapbooking and crafting. She brought that same creativity to the marketing department at Deseret Book, where she worked alongside artists and authors — work she loved dearly.
Kathie’s faith shaped everything she did. She was wholly devoted to serving others and gave her whole heart to every calling she received, never content to do anything halfway. She especially loved serving in the Primary, and she was twice called as Relief Society president, where she served faithfully.
Above all, Kathie loved her family. She was an amazing cook and baker, and she was at her best feeding the people she loved — especially at holidays and family gatherings. She had a particular eye for anyone who needed a place to belong, and those people often found their way to her table and into the family’s celebrations.
The family spent a few years living in Oregon, a season Kathie always called the best of their life together. Apart from those years, she made her home in the Salt Lake Valley her whole life.
She also had a lifelong love of family history, and she took special delight in her Irish roots — proudly declaring herself Irish. She devoted herself to her McGhie ancestry, researching the line and preserving it for those who would come after, and she organized reunions that kept the living family connected to one another.
Through her many years of illness and medical treatment, Kathie received amazing care and support. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to her doctors and caregivers, especially Dr. Saundra Buys and the team at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. They are also grateful to her caregivers at A Plus Health Care at Home — Christian, Marienela, Shyann, Liz, Kelly, Kristen, and Brandi — for their skill, devotion, and compassion.
She is survived by her husband, Steven Terry; her children, Mollie (Travis) Nordgren, Melissa (Steve) Parker, Mike (Jenni) Terry, and Monica Terry; her siblings, Richard M. (Debby) Peacock and Karen Nelson; and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchild, who brought her endless joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Connie Kimball Peacock and Richard Marlow “Dick” Peacock, Jr.; her sister, Kristie Linn Toone; and her brother-in-law, Marty Nelson.
