Keith was born in Salt Lake City on March 25, 1935, to Alton H. Sorensen Sr. and Ruth Bergquist Sorensen. He grew up across the street from his grandparents’ farm and was an adventurous youth. After graduating from South High, he attended the University of Utah and then his beloved University of Southern California where he studied finance. Keith went on to receive a Juris Doctor of Law from the University of Utah in 1965.
Keith was also an Army veteran having served in Germany decoding messages during the Cold War. Keith then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in The British Isles mission where his love for Scotland began and continued his entire life. He touched the lives of many and paved the way for the church to grow by scouting and securing land for future church buildings. After his mission, Keith married Carolyn Johnson on September 2, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Keith was actively involved with the Sigma Chi Fraternity and cherished his involvement with his brothers. He was of generous service and strived to improve the lives of others within and beyond the organization and lead them to God. He joined Sigma Chi at the University of Utah. He was later affiliated with the chapter at the University of Southern California, where he was Consul/president of the chapter. He was a dedicated alumnus, attending many training workshops and helping undergraduate chapters. He served as the Grand Consul (International President) of Sigma Chi from 1985 to 1987. Keith was also recognized with the Significant Sig Award for his personal and professional accomplishments and with The Order of Constantine Award for his service to the general fraternity. He treasured his relationships with his fraternity brothers and was always happy to be involved with Sigma Chi.
Keith was passionate about real estate and spent most of his career engaged in commercial real estate development. He negotiated and brought about many projects including the University Mall in Orem. He also held positions in banking and as general legal counsel.
Keith was devoted to service and a committed follower of Jesus Christ. He served as a bishop twice and generously volunteered in many other positions of service to those around him. Of special importance to him was his time as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He spent countless hours in service to his family and especially caring for and entertaining his grandchildren.
Keith loved family vacations, western and sci-fi movies, and trips to the family cabin. He was an avid mountain climber and summiting the Grand Tetons and The Matterhorn in Switzerland were his fondest climbing achievements. He also loved USC football and even in this day of digital everything, he wore out his numerous VCR recordings of USC games.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 59 years, Carolyn. He is survived by his children Stacy Ure (Robert), Brent K. Sorensen (Rosario), Michael S. Sorensen (Wendy), Heather Eubanks (Benjamin), 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Keith faced numerous valiant battles with various cancers and other illnesses over the span of 40 years. During these times, his entire family helped care for him which fostered a deep gratitude for care givers of all types. The family would like to express special appreciation for all the loving care Keith received from Canyon Home Care & Hospice.
We are so thankful for Keith in our lives and know that we will see him again. We will greatly miss his fun personality and calm soothing voice. We love you, Dad.
