Kent spent his youth in Sugarhouse – attended South High School and received a Bachelor’s degree (History) from the University of Utah, then secured a Teachers Certificate from the “U”. He was always a determined and dedicated Ute!
Kent worked for over 40 years as a public school teacher, dedicating his life to the education of America’s youth. He taught at Cypress High, Murray High, and spent most of his teaching years at Farmington Junior High School in Davis School District, helping the kids there navigate geography, including accompanying his classes to Europe a number of times. He was a likeable, creative, and professional educator, and was renown for his human connections within Utah’s education system. Kent was also an intellectual, and was an avid reader of mostly fictional novels (sometimes two or three at a time), although he could also be found reading biographies and historical texts. He was a music lover, and enjoyed writing fiction. But mostly, he was a serious visual artist - painting in styles of realism and noir, along with an occasional portrait of famous people. Numerous public shows were held in Utah, showcasing his artwork.
Kent was also a proud member of Utah’s LGBTQ+ community and was an activist for gay rights and was known for his activism and passion in the political community (volunteering and canvassing for the John F. Kennedy campaign in 1960!) – always involved and opinionated. He was devastated and angry by/about the current political climate, and at the way in which America has eroded into ignorance and division.
In 1969 Kathy Sadler Millar and Kent were married in Magna, Utah. Later divorced. Kent is survived by their two children, Kimber Tiernan and Brandon Millar (Heather), three grandchildren, Teaj Farmer, Micah Farmer, and Grady Millar. He loved all of them immensely. Two brothers, Ronald Lloyd Price and Steve L. Price. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews and extended family (he researched and recorded a comprehensive family history). Preceded in death by his loving parents. Kent spent many hours in dedicated care for his mother in her final days.
A celebration of Kent’s passionate life will be held for all family and friends at Murray City Park in Murray, Utah on Sunday September 17th, 2023 between 4:30-8:00 pm. 495 E. 5300 S. Pavilion #2.
Please, in lieu of flowers, volunteer at your local public school, visit your library, or donate to Salt Lake PRIDE. Or…help a homeless kid in some way.
