Although our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Kevin Ray Smedley received the kindest and best of treatment, his noble spirit reunited with loved ones on the other side on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Kevin was born July 27, 1952, in Ogden, Utah to Aryln D. Smedley and Barbara Larue Hymas Smedley. He was raised and educated in Ogden City. He graduated from Ogden High School, and later attended Weber State University.
On May 15, 1975, Kevin married the love of his life and best friend, Kathleen Strong Smedley in the Ogden, Utah Temple. Together they raised two wonderful children Amie and Brian, who he is very proud of.
Kevin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served an honorable mission in Kentucky - Tennessee. Serving was an important part of his life and he served in many callings. He and Kathy were called to serve a two-year mission in the Addiction and Recovery Program at the Utah State Prison. It was their Friday night date, and his favorite calling in the Church.
He was employed by Sara Lee Bakery for over 30 years. He made many friends there and enjoyed meeting with them monthly for breakfast up until the end. After retirement he went to work for 3-D Art where he found great joy in making various items for Temples around the world.
He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. You were considered family if you had the opportunity to be sitting next to him on his boat or fishing from the shore. These will be his grandsons’ fondest memories. He also enjoyed woodworking and would spend countless hours in his shop making knives with his son and grandsons. He loved reading the scriptures daily, camping, Christmas bingo, hiding eggs for the annual Easter egg hunt for his grandchildren, and a good “Smed” burger. He will be missed dearly, but we have the knowledge that families are together forever, and we are looking forward to reuniting with him again one day.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Kathleen, his daughter Amie (Brian) Ashby, and his son Brian (Tasha) Smedley. He has 5 grandchildren whom he adores. Hunter, Daxton, Marcus, Deegan, and who he referred to as his “favorite granddaughter” Oakley. He is also survived by his siblings, Craig (Ann), Becky Albiston, Mark (Shelley), Kris (Kathleen), and Kerry (Kenra). He is preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Alvin and Hazel Strong, brother-in-law, Larry Albiston, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Fisher.
The families would like to express their deepest appreciation for all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who took such great care of our “Smed”.
“If others wonder why I’m missin’,
tell ‘em not to worry,
I’ve just gone fishin’!”
