LaVerne Mitchell

LaVerne W. Mitchell, loving and precious wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully August 22, 2012 at the age of 99.

She will truly be missed by her family and friends for her genuine honesty, truthfulness, unconditional love and positive outlook on life.

She was born May 1, 1913 in Bountiful, UT in a log cabin to Robert Goodwin Wise and Harriet Eliza Harrison Wise. She married Kenneth C. Mitchell on June 7, 1938. She was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed many callings. LaVerne loved people; she loved her church, Senior Center, family and friends. She enjoyed extensive world traveling, always finding something more to learn, see, touch and smell. Everything in life excited her and she freely expressed what a joy it was just living, working and having family and friends be such a big part of her life.

LaVerne was an excellent wife, homemaker and mother. Her family came first no matter what. She loved being a mom and wife. She worked for Granite School District and was the Secretary for Monroe Elementary School for many years. After she retired from the district, she then went to work for the Federal Forest Service. At the age of 84, she finally retired. She so enjoyed her work and fellow employees. She continued to travel and got involved in the Senior Programs and eventually didn’t know how she ever had time to work.

LaVerne is survived by her children, Vernon R. Mitchell, Karen M. (Steven) Hammer, Larry K. (Shirley) Mitchell and her sister Beverly Wise (Robert) Bruening. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Michael (Lesley) Hammer, Lori (Michael) Hudson, Kayleen (Toney) Johnson, Hiedi (Ty) Johnson, Debbie Mitchell, Jeff (Becky) Mitchell, Patricia (Kip) Liljenquist; 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Bernice Ottley Bullen, , daughter-in-law Connie Mitchell, great-granddaughter-in-law Danielle and great-great-grandson Wyatt Hudson.

Funeral services will be held Monday August 27, 2012 at 11am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Dr.). There will be a viewing Sunday night at the mortuary from 5-7pm as well as one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Bountiful City Cemetery.
