Our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Leonard Harold Jensen, passed away quietly at home July 30, 2023, at the age of 81. Leonard was born on May 16, 1942 in Logan, Utah to Kenneth Gordon Jensen and Lillie Lucy Liechty Jensen. He was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High School in 1960. He played a variety of sports but had a real love for track and field. Upon graduation he served in the West Central States Mission from 1961 to 1963. Leonard served 6 in the Army Reserves.
He met the love of his life and future wife, Judi Ann Lund, on a summer day in 1961. That night he told his mother, “I just met the girl I am going to marry.” Leonard and Judi were married in 1964. They raised three children, Michael (Tracy, deceased), Todd, and Rebecca (David) Peacock. Leonard was the proud grandpa of Alexandra and Trisha.
Leonard started working in the grocery business at the age of 16 as a bagger at Grand Central, and retired at the age of 75 as a Produce Manager for Reams. He enjoyed managing and mentoring younger employees, creating produce displays, and interacting with customers.
Leonard loved all animals. A neighbor’s gift of two homing pigeons at the age of nine started a life-long passion for birds. He raised and raced pigeons as a hobby and was a long-time member of the Utah Pigeon Club. When he wasn’t at work or spending time with family, Leonard could often be found in the backyard taking care of his birds. Throughout his life Leonard loved nature and being outdoors. In addition to bird racing he enjoyed hiking and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, three children, two granddaughters, brother Jerry (Donna), and sisters Anna Marie Simons (Edwin, deceased) and Vickie (Kent) Beckstead.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gordon, and daughter Jill.
We will miss him dearly.
Special thanks to Rachel, Shelly and Rose from Aspire Hospice for their kind care of Leonard.
