It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Bench announces her passing on August 23, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lois was born to Thomas and Florence Ellison on April 26, 1920 in Afton, Wyoming. While attending East High School she won two short story contests. Lois received a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Utah in 1941. She worked at the Salt Lake Clinic, Hill Air Force Base, LDS Hospital, and the University of Utah Medical Center.
Lois married Henry L. Bench on January 16, 1944. They had three sons. Lois is survived by her sons Bob [Lynn], and Larry [Cheryl]; her seven grandchildren Adam Woolsey [Christine], Zachary Bench [Brittany], Tom Bench [Sara], Ryan Bench [Trisha], Scott Bench [Tami], Shauna Bench, Steve Bench; and her 17 great grandchildren AJ Woolsey, Zoe Woolsey, Izac Woolsey, Graicee Bench, Chloie Bench, Henry Bench, Edward Bench, Gretchen Bench, Alexia Bench, Elise Bench, Cadin Bench, Caitlin Bench, Caleb Bench, Tristan Bench, Savana Taylor, Scout Taylor, and Violet Bench. Lois was preceded in death by her sister Nomma Randall; her brothers Bernard Ellison, and Tom Ellison [JoAnne]; her husband Henry; and her son Phil [Debra].
Lois loved traveling and camping with her family. She was very fond of Yellowstone Park and the scenic area of Idaho west of the park. Lois and family also spent many happy weekends camping closer to home in Millcreek Canyon. Lois relaxed by reading novels and non-fiction. She wrote and published a historic novel titled The Immigrant Whirlwind in America in 2005.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, August 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. This will followed by a funeral at 2:00 p.m.
