

She was born March 4, 1932 to David Powell Ipson and Helen Louise Williams of Salt Lake City UT. She graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah before moving to Washington D.C. where she met Robert Green whom she married May 20, 1953 at the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
In 1957 Robert found employment in Mexico City where they lived for several years and in 1962 he accepted a position in Oruro, Bolivia where unfortunately he was severely affected by altitude sickness and after a brief return to Virginia they returned to Salt Lake to live with Lois' parents.
Lois then returned to the University of Utah, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in English Education. She taught at West High School for 5 years and Cottonwood High school for 9 years. She continued her education while teaching, earning an M.A. in English from the U. of U. in 1972.
In 1977 Lois and Robert divorced amicably. In 1980 Lois took early retirement and moved to New York City to pursue a Doctorate at New York University. In 1981 she met Nancy Lang, a high school English teacher in Teaneck NJ and the two founded a partnership that was to last the rest of their lives.
In 1986 Lois started teaching as an Assistant Professor at Clarion University in Clarion PA. In 1987 she was awarded Ed.D. Doctor of English Education from NYU. She was promoted to tenured Associate Professor and was the Director of the Writing Center. She retired in 1996. Her partner Nancy also completed her PhD. and taught at Marshall University.
In 2000 on Nancy's retirement they moved back to Salt Lake and in 2007 they moved to Eugene OR where her son David lived and where their relationship was recognized and on October 8, 2013 after 32 years together they were married.
Lois was a loving mother, a gifted teacher, and an exceptional partner. Throughout her life she reached out to help those around her and loved without judgement. Lois and Nancy eventually moved into assisted living in Eugene and then in Salem where Lois' daughter Nancy lives. Lois Green is survived by her wife Nancy Lang, her children David (Jill), Portland OR, Jefferson (Verona) SLC, Nancy Nielsen, Salem OR, Jane (Tom) Gryder, Vienna VA, 9 grandchildren, and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Wasatch Lawn 3401 S Highland Dr., Millcreek, UT on Saturday Sept. 20 at 10:00 am with interment to follow.
