Lorraine Schvaneveldt Maughan was born in Preston, ID, on July 1, 1935, to parents Delbert George Schvaneveldt and Ruth Schwartz Schvaneveldt. She passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Many of her family members were able to visit with her in her last few days.

Lorraine graduated from West Side High School in Clifton, ID. She married her eternal companion Alvin Going Maughan on June 12, 1953, in the Logan Utah Temple. After being married for only six short weeks, Alvin was drafted into the U.S. Army toward the end of the Korean War and served for 21 months leaving them both so far apart and on their own in their new marriage. Lorraine and Alvin had a long and happy life together. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Lorraine chose the occupation of “mother to six children,” where she graduated with high honors. Throughout her life, she never missed an opportunity to prepare fantastic meals or to love and nurture her children and grandchildren. For over 20 years, she took this love of cooking and caring to Olympus High School, where she was the cook and beloved “lunch lady” to every student that attended. Throughout her life, she always packed lunches for her husband Alvin while he was working. (These lunches were often doubled or tripled to feed those he was working with.) She also flawlessly managed the household finances, enabling her family to live frugally while lacking for nothing.

Lorraine was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She had a special love for the time she was able to serve in the Primary. Lorraine and Alvin also served a Church service mission to the pasta plant in Salt Lake City.

Mom dedicated her life to serving and helping others. Love, selflessness, hard work, and compassion were among her defining attributes. She truly put the needs of others before her own. Mom also had a contagious sense of humor—she always loved a good laugh at a funny story or corny joke. Even in her difficult times, she maintained this happy outlook and never complained. We love our mother and will be forever grateful for her exemplary life and legacy.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the residents and caregivers at Spring Gardens and Cascade Springs for their caring service rendered over the past year.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary located at 3401 Highland Dr. Millcreek, UT 84106. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM, with funeral services at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Weston Cemetery located at 300 North 100 West, Weston, ID.
