Margo moved to Salt Lake City, UT as a teenager, and graduated Jordan High School. She maintained close relationships with her “Jordan girls” throughout her life.
Margo was a world class skier. She made the US Junior ski team in 1957. She won the Intermountain Junior Championships from 1958-60. In 1964 she competed in the Olympic Games in Innsbruk, Austria where she placed 21st in the women’s downhill. Margo was known to her teammates as “Magoo” and she liked to tell the story of how her dad ordered her first set of wooden skis out of the Sears Roebuck catalogue. She later served as the Executive Director of the Intermountain Ski Association from 1967-70. In 2007, she was inducted into the Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame.
On September 24, 1969, Margo married George McDonald, who was a ski instructor in the army and a wonderful human being. They were both outstanding athletes and spent a lot of time skiing together, playing tennis, golfing, and fly fishing. They were married for 42 years until his death in 2011.
Margo is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her older brother, Michael Walters. She is survived by her children Mollie McDonald and Michael McDonald; children-in-law, Eric S. Jensen and Janelle Nimer; grandchildren, Pen Jensen and Milo Jensen; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Stout and Patricia Campbell; and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Margo received excellent care at the end of her life from the staff at The Peaks, South Jordan and the nurses with Bristol Hospice. Her family extends its heartfelt thanks to her caregivers.
