She was born on November 25, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska to Louis Paul Sempek and Frances Dorothy Sempek. She graduated from Saint Mary Mercy High School in 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary Ann then attended St. Joseph’s Hospital and Nursing School in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mary Ann married George Warren Mayor on May 4th, 1957 in Long Beach, California. She worked for 35 years as a Registered Nurse and Medical Surgical Assistant Director at Columbia St. Mark’s Hospital. She was honored on March 1st, 1996 with the First Humanitarian Award, received an Excellence in Nursing Award in May of 1991. She took honor in caring for both of her parents before their deaths as well. She was the kind of woman who learned how to draw on God’s grace in hours of need, and knew how to share that grace with those around her.
Mary Ann loved playing piano, she was active in her church and community. She is lovingly referred to by her great grandchildren as “Mary Ann the Great”.
Mary Ann is survived by her children Micheline Van Wagoner (Terry), Suzanne Mayor-Benz (Harley). Michael Mayor, and Jacqueline Doms (Bery, deceased). Her siblings, Jim Sempek (Linda), Lorraine Troesher (William, deceased), and Katherine Saucerman (John). As well as her 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband George Warren Mayor, her parents Louis and Frances Sempek, brother Robert and Lois Sempek, grandchildren Mark Benz and Casey Mayor (Nicole).
A graveside service will be held on July 25th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 South Highland Drive – Millcreek, Utah) in the Rosemont Section.
