Mary Beth Elg Gold passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the age of 93. Mary Beth was born on October 22, 1923 in Salt Lake City, the fifth of seven children of Lorenzo F. and Lenora H. Elg. She met her husband Noel Gold at Granite High School, after which Mary Beth and her family moved to Sandy, where she went to Jordan High School.
She married Noel in the Salt Lake Temple on November 4, 1943 while he was on furlough from the war, and together they raised four children. She served on PTA boards and as president.
Mary Beth was always very active in the LDS Church, and served in many callings, including Sunday School Superintendent, Primary President (both ward and stake), YWMIA President, and Relief Society President (both ward and stake). She volunteered for many years as a tour guide at the LDS Church Office Building. She loved to serve others.
Some of Mary Beth’s hobbies included cooking, painting, sewing, and traveling, including trips to Hawaii, England, Germany, and Hong Kong.
Mary Beth is survived by her four children Roger (Julie) Gold, Janet (Paul) Simmons, Richard (Luann) Gold, and Linda (Lloyd) Neeley. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, and by a brother, Bert (Maxine) Elg, and sisters-in-law Kathryn Elg, and Bonnie (Doug) Hart. Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, three brothers, two sisters, and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 2:00pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Mary Beth requested that donations be made to either the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or the LDS Church General Missionary Fund. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff at Layton Park Memory Care for their excellent care and attentiveness during the last months of Mary Beth’s life.
