1962 ~ 2010
Our beloved father, brother, son, and friend, Matthew Clay Mattson returned to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the age of 48.
Matthew was born February 16, 1962 in Salt Lake City to Dee Mattson and Sherrie Varley Mattson. Matthew has two brothers and one sister; Robyn Michel and David Mattson (who died at age five), also Donald Mattson and wife Michelle.
Matt attended and graduated from Ogden High School, where he was well liked and was a student body president and met his future wife and best friend, Sheri Moore. Matt attended the University of Utah and later, Weber State College where he majored in business. This major served him well as he later was part owner of a furniture store in Salt Lake for 10 years. Matthew served a mission for the LDS church in Buenos Aires Argentina where he helped change and effected many lives. He faithfully served and lead in many callings in the LDS Church and loved all he served with and for. Matt married Sheri Moore in December of 1983 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they had seven beautiful children who he adored and would do anything for six sons and one daughter, he would often say when asked how many children “I have six thorns among my one rose.” Matt always encouraged and supported his children’s talents and desires and was an excellent provider. His family remembers all the fun times they had with him. Matt was a “kid at heart” and always wanted to vacation in Disneyland, (he loved it more than the kids did) and he never grew tired of the “happiest place on earth”. A common comment you would hear him say when they were all going to go have fun is “let’s go party!”
Matt’s magnetic personality and sharp wit served him well as a motivational speaker. Matt traveled and spoke for many different companies in the last 12 years. People were drawn to his sense of humor and high energy. Matt had an inquisitive mind and could converse with anyone anywhere. He made friends everywhere he went and couldn’t help but like him and then love him.
Matt also possessed a sensitive spirit and never ending generous nature. Matt would have given the shirt of this back for a total stranger. No matter how busy, Matt would always stop and help anyone in need. He cared deeply for his family and friends, as they for him.
Matt was preceded in death by his son, Levi, mother, Sherrie; brother, David and grandparents, Paul and LaRue Brumfield, and Kingsley Varley.
He is survived and deeply missed by the love of his life, Sheri, and their six children, Logan, Landon, Lexis, Hunter, Tanner and Noah as well as his many nieces, nephews friends and neighbors who have been so loyal and helpful throughout his life.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC. His body will also be laid to rest with his son Levi at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park following services. Online condolences at www.wasatchlawn.com
