Matthew Ryan Smith

Our son, brother, father and friend passed away October 26, 2015. Matt was born on March 21, 1979 in San Luis Obispo, CA. Matt graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1997 and later attended Dixie State College, where he played football for both.

Matt married Arlene Henry in 2004, later divorced. They had one beautiful daughter together on August 24, 2006, Madelyn Rylee Smith, who was the love of his life. Matt proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 2002-2007 as a Special Amphibious Recon Corpsman (SARC). He served one tour in Fallujah, Iraq in 2005.

Matt was very passionate about Bodybuilding and proud to win the title of Mr. Utah in both 2011 and 2013. Matt had a great love for his family and enjoyed their many camping and boating trips. He also loved horseback riding with his dad.

Matt will be forever missed and loved by his parents, Steven and Lori Smith, his brother Nicholas (Nikki) Smith, his sister Katelyn (Colton) Kestle, and above all his sweet daughter Mady. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Shanna Lee Smith and Virginia Bockerich, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his uncles, J.D. Poulsen and David Smith, and grandfather’s Don Smith and James Bockerich.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary with a viewing prior to services from 12:00 noon until 1:45, interment at Wasatch Lawn will immediately follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, Matt would be proud to have donations made to his daughter Madelyn Smith to help provide for her education.
