He is survived by his sister, Lynda (Christian) Jensen; brothers, Jeffrey (Jodie) Kasteler and Lee (Luse) Kasteler; sister-in-law, Lisa Kasteler; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Emma Lou and Rodger Kasteler, as well as his siblings, Jennifer Swinyard Kasteler and David Roger Kasteler.
Michael was born on September 24, 1980, to Emma Lou and Rodger Kasteler as the youngest of five children. He grew up surrounded by the love of his siblings, Jennifer, David, Lynda, and Jeffrey.
He attended Olympus High School, where he built friendships that lasted throughout his life. Michael had a remarkable sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and was always ready to help—whether it was moving furniture, baking cookies, or working in the yard.
Baking was one of Michael’s greatest passions. Recently, he was proud to share his famous chocolate chip cookies with the community by selling them at the Fox Market in Holladay.
Michael found great joy in caring for his parents and treasured the quality years he was able to spend with them. He loved bringing people together, often hosting holiday parties and family gatherings that created cherished memories. He was also known for his long walks through Holladay, always offering a smile and a wave.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Michael served a mission in Frankfurt, Germany, where he developed a lifelong love for the German language and culture. He often read scriptures and listened to podcasts in German, keeping that connection close to his heart.
As the youngest child, Michael was truly a unifying light in the Kasteler family. His parents once reflected, “He came to us in December of that year bringing with him from the faraway island of Western Samoa, all the promised gifts to help heal and unite and to be taught in the ways of the Lord in preparation for a life of service and love for his Heavenly Father.”
Michael lived his life in service to others. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, love of fun, and his remarkable ability to bring people together.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, at Wasatch Lawn in Millcreek Utah. A viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m.
