Michael Blair Thayne

Michael Blair Thayne passed away on September 19, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born there on April 1, 1969, to Michael S. Thayne and Barbara S. Thayne. After graduating from Skyline High School in 1987, Mike continued working at Smith-Crown Co., the family business.

Mike was mechanically inclined and curious about how things worked. He had a knack for fixing things and could usually figure out what was wrong. With that skill and plenty of ambition, he opened his own branch of the family business and fittingly named it Mike's Central Vac. He and his younger sister, Alisyn, ran the store together through the end of 2025--a good run for a brother and sister who knew the business well.

Along the way, Mike met the love of his life Darleen. They moved to Sugar House, called it home, and welcomed their son, Morgan who became the light and heart of Mike's life. More than anything, Mike loved his son Morgan. Of all the things that mattered to Mike, being Morgan's father mattered the most.

Mike loved golf. For more than 20 years, he played in the men's league at Mountain Dell, where he could scramble better than anybody. He always looked forward to his Thursday tee-time with his best friends.

Those who knew Mike will remember his sense of humor, his loyalty, his generosity, and his big heart. He had an adventurous side, too, and went scuba diving all around the world. He will be missed by the people who shared those adventures, the friends who played alongside him, and the family he loved so much.

Mike is survived by his wife, Darleen; his son, Morgan; his sister, Alisyn Thayne; Alisyn's children, Andrew Thayne, Chelsea Wallace, and Jack Wallace; and her stepdaughter, Cadence Jones-Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael S. Thayne; and his stepmother, Kathlyn Thayne; his mother, Barbara S. Green; and his stepfather, Jerry Green.

A Celebration of Life for Mike will take place at a later date. More information to come.
