Michalene “Mickee” Hertig Roll, 81, passed peacefully on August 29th, 2022 from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Mickee was predeceased by her father Ernest Hertig, mother Margaret, and brother Mike, who she remained close with her entire life. She is survived by her two sons, Steven (Heather) and Russell (Denise), 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Ed (Debbie), John (Janice), Nancy (Carlos), and Kathy.
Mickee spent most of her childhood in Utah, with some time spent in California. She and her brother Mike were close in age, and were always the best of friends. She graduated from Murray High School, where she enjoyed singing and swimming. She attended the University of Utah for one year, married, and soon welcomed her two young boys to their family. Mickee was a hard worker and dedicated to creating a good life for her family, even when it was tough. With the help of her mom, Mickee returned to school to complete her degree in Finance at the U of U, and accepted a job with Mtn. Bell, all while raising her young sons. Mickee remarried and as a young family they enjoyed camping in the Uinta Mountains and enjoying the sun in St. George. She eventually continued her career at AT&T’s headquarters in New Jersey. Mickee cherished the nine years she spent in New Jersey, where she made friends that became family, and strengthened her faith.
Eventually Mickee moved back to her home in Salt Lake City, and worked for the LDS Church at Beehive Clothing Distribution. She loved that her career involved a lot of business travel, allowing her to see much of the country.
Upon retirement, Mickee was thrilled to be able to serve a full-time mission in the Arizona Mesa Mission. She loved her experience there and the opportunity it gave her to draw closer to her Savior and to be with other missionaries. When she returned home she served in the Jordan River Utah Temple and became a coordinator there. She made many great friends in that role and treasured the time she was able to spend in the temple regularly serving others.
Mickee always enjoyed reading, swimming, good movies, long drives (especially to see her kids and grandkids), concerts, and entertaining. A house has never been, nor will be, as organized and put together as hers. Her attention to detail and ability to find the perfect container is unmatched. Her grandkids will forever love the pet name “dolly” and feel “tickled” when they think of her. We are grateful for her example of kindness and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She has been an influence for good on those who were lucky enough to be around her, and she will be so greatly missed.
Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held just prior from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
