September 29, 1928 - May 17, 2024
Morgan Eugene Hurd triumphantly passed from this life to the next in early moments of May 17, 2024, at his home in Salt Lake City. Surrounded by his children in a tearful farewell he was joyfully celebrated in greeting by his wife, Elaine, older siblings, long absent parents and the many others in his life who have gone before him.
Born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, Morgan was the youngest surviving child of Frederick and Winnifred Hurd. After losing both parents by age 12, Morgan was raised by Edith (Hurd) and Irvin Anderson. . He served his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northwestern United States. In 1954, he came down to Provo, Utah, with his cousin Rex Anderson to attend BYU and later a trade school in Salt Lake City while he lived with various other relatives. He met his eternal companion, Elaine Searle, in Salt Lake City and married her in the Salt Lake Temple in June, 1958.
Morgan became a U.S. citizen and they raised a family while Morgan worked as an electronic technician at various places but the majority of his career was at E-Systems until his retirement in 1993. He was always working hard to improve and remodel the family home, digging out and expanding the basement, then planning and building a two-car garage. He planted an annual garden and took care of his mother-in-law’s yard as well. During his retirement, he also served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He was always ready with a pun, showing us his ever present wry sense of humor. Throughout his life, he was always ready to help his children, friends and neighbors with yard work, shoveling snow, or anything else they might need. One of the great trials of his advancing years was accepting that he could no longer physically get up and do everything he wanted to do.
Morgan is survived by his five children: Charles (Susan), Clark (Kaylene), Scott (Becky), Melanie (Karl-Heinz Goldmund), and Marinda, also ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his older siblings Ruth, Dorothy, and William, his loving wife, Elaine, and one granddaughter, Charity.
