Nancy Lee Burningham passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2020 at her home in Los Angeles, CA. She was born May 16, 1955 at Hill Air Force Base, Clearfield, Utah to Charles Robert and Jean Lee Pitcher Holman, where her father was in the Air Force. When Nancy was a toddler, the family relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah. Nancy attended Highland High and Olympus High schools, graduating from Olympus High in 1973. She attended Mountain West College in Salt Lake City, majoring in business administration. Nancy accepted a job with Sinclair Oil and relocated to Denver, Colorado, where she became and remained a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. After a few years in Denver, she moved back to Salt Lake City and lived there for many years. She married Clayne Burningham in 1978, later divorcing. In 1991, she moved to the Southern California area where she worked as a Senior Executive Assistant for several top corporations. While working for Occidental Petroleum, she was part of the team responsible for the opening of the June Keyes penguin exhibit at the Long Beach Aquarium.
Nancy was an avid reader, loved football, going to the movies, anything ocean-related, and especially loved animals. She was kind, generous, compassionate, and had an incredibly soft heart. She worked with several pet adoption agencies and was a foster parent to many a “fur baby.” She struggled with health issues her whole life, but that did not stop her from her pursuing her adventures. Whether sky-diving in Monterey, swimming with the sharks off the Farallon Islands, tornado chasing in Oklahoma and Texas, swimming with the dolphins in San Diego, dining at an underwater restaurant in San Francisco, and staying in a lighthouse, she truly did some amazing things. She loved her family and always looked forward to spending time with them, whether it was in Utah, Southern California, or the Bay area. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Randy Vahan, and brother David Holman. She is survived by her brother Charles Robert Holman, Jr., sisters Susan Holman-Vahan and Sharon Webb, and step-mother Elaine Holman. She is also survived by her step-siblings Madge Shell, Miles McCarty, Gary McCarty and Karen Hansen, nephews Steven, Jayson and Trenton Webb, and nieces Amanda Webb and Elizabeth Holman.
Funeral services and internment are Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. An outdoor luncheon at Wasatch Lawn follows the services.
