She was born on March 27th, 1926, in Scipio, Utah to Wesley Martin and Zella Memmott Martin. After graduating from Millard High School with a scholarship to Business School, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1944.
Opal met Doyle Gill while working as a secretary at Electrolux and they later married on April 19, 1947- and went on to have six children. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and they loved dancing. They were a beautiful couple on the dance floor.
Opal loved shopping and keeping up with the latest styles. She spent years collecting bells, angels, spoons, owls, and shoes. She also enjoyed spending time with family and always had a joke ready to tell.
She enjoyed cards, especially canasta and poker. She loved to place a bet. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and watching golf. Also, her greatest joy became candy… After the first bite she would say, “YUMMY!”
She is survived by her children: Judy Kirk (David), Dixie Krupicka (Dan), Steven Gill, Richard Gill (Carolyn), her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. As well as her siblings Jessie Ann Wood and Bonnie Kendall, two sisters-in-law Phyllis Gill White and Geri Gill Brigham, and many nieces and nephews.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband Doyle Gill and second husband David Butler, her daughter Shelley Gill, her son Mark Gill. As well as her grandchildren Raquel Blomquist and Riley Joel Richards, along with two brothers and three sisters.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Escalante of Coventry for their 18 months of care and kindness given to Opal.
