Ralph was born in Salt Lake City to Robert and Mabel Bird, the youngest of three children, following Jim and Billie, who loved nothing more than to make “Little Ralphie” cry.
He spent his early life traveling the world as a Navy brat, with stops in New Mexico, Nevada, Turkey, Washington, and Japan. There, he played football, wrestled, and ran track before graduating from Yokohama High School. Between these stops, he always returned to Utah, where he lived with his grandmother close to Liberty Park, where he and his mother loved to play tennis.
After returning from Japan, he served an LDS mission in Germany. He then returned to Utah for good, where he met, married, and was sealed to the love of his life, Beth Weston, in the Ogden Temple in 1974. He also attended the University of Utah and started his career as an accountant.
Ralph and Beth started a family, which was always an important part of their lives. They had four children and settled in West Jordan, Utah. Here, he spent his time with family and friends, playing tennis, racquetball, reading, and getting Beth to go on trips.
He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, friends, and faith; his capacity for acceptance and caring; his sense of humor; and his sweet tooth.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Beth.
He is survived by his brother and sister, Jim (Carolyn) Bird and Billie Bird; his four children, Becky (Troy) Luckart, Wes (Gina) Bird, Tim (Leah) Bird, and Katie (Eli) Jones; fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
