Our beloved Rex Gordon Masters passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 25, 2025. He was born on November 4, 1967, in Murray, Utah, to James Ross Masters and Mary Kathleen Gordon Liddiard, later divorced. Rex grew up in Cottonwood Heights and Sandy, Utah, where he attended Alta High School and forged lifelong friendships.
In his youth, Rex cherished time spent with his grandparents and family at their cabin in Clear Creek, Carbon County and in Manilla, Utah. He found joy in fishing, hiking, and 4-wheeling with his loved ones. Rex developed a profound love for music in his early teens, becoming a gifted guitarist and an avid collector. Rex also nurtured an interest in firearms, influenced by his father, and enjoyed building his collection.
Rex married Michelle Berg in 1987, later divorced. They are the parents of three children: Morgan, Shantell, and Kyle, whom he loved. Since 2015, he adored the love of his life, Stacy Weissgerber. They built a life filled with simple joys and mutual care. Rex was a wonderful caretaker, taking pride in their home and nurturing their relationship.
His heart was dedicated to serving others; for many years, he volunteered at the Crossroads Urban Center, supporting individuals and families in need. Despite being legally blind, Rex furthered his education in behavioral health, graduating from Westminster College in Salt Lake City with a BA in Psychology.
A true animal lover, Rex rescued his military canine, Orky, and adopted Charvel, his cherished Shepinois. He spent countless hours with his dogs, who brought him immense joy.
Rex was loved and admired by many in the community, and his family is grateful for all the kind words and support during this difficult time. He is survived by his partner Stacy Weissgerber, parents James and Mary Liddiard, children Morgan (Dan) Pearson, Shantell Masters, Kyle (Jodicee) Masters, siblings Stephanie (Dane) Proffitt, Machelle (Gary) Belliston, Sara (Trevor) Snell, Jeri Lyn (Jim) Thayer and Carol Ann Liddiard, as well as seven grandsons, one granddaughter and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father James Ross Masters and grandparents.
