

Beloved father and friend, Richard E. Carlson, passed away August 23, 2017. Richard was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frieda and Lee Carlson on July 20, 1932. He married Gertrude Schwieder on June 25, 1961. They enjoyed 45 years together until her passing in 2006, and raised two sons, Richard and Ken.
Richard graduated from South High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After earning a civil engineering degree from Utah State University, he worked as an engineer and manager at Utah Power and Light Company until his retirement. His numerous hobbies included leatherwork, woodwork, oil painting, stained glass, bowling, and gardening. He was a lifelong member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Salt Lake City.
Richard is survived by his two sons: Richard L. Carlson of San Jose, California, and Kenneth L. Carlson of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The family is grateful for all the help he received in his final years. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive. The family will greet friends prior to the service, from 10:30 to 11:00.
