Richard (“Dick”) was born on July 17, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the fifth of nine children, from his parents Joseph and Elsie Duncan. He graduated from Granite High School in 1952 and immediately served his country in the US Navy as he was assigned to the aircraft carrier Kearsarge in communications during the Korean War from 1952 through 1955. Upon completing an honorable service, he began working for Bell Systems/Mountain Bell in 1955 and retired as a Manager in 1990 after nearly 35 years of service.
In 1956, Dick married Myrna L. Peterson, and they raised three children (Monte, Andrea and Eric) in the South Salt Lake/ Murray area of Utah. While divorced in 1976, Dick and Myrna remained close friends.
After retiring, Dick spent much of his time with home improvements for his sisters, children and other family members. He was devoted to the care and support of his mother (Elsie Duncan) who passed 2012 at 105. Then of course there was golf. Dick had a passion for golf as a young boy, spending time at Nibley golf course collecting and selling retrieved golf balls. This passion followed throughout his life and amplified at retirement where he often golfed 5 days a week. He was a talented golfer and received many awards.
Dick was preceded in death by his father (Joseph), mother (Elsie) and siblings (Evelyn Ruth, Lloyd Paul, Floyd Peter, Clarence Joseph, and Clifford Matthew).
Dick is survived by his children, Richard Monte Duncan, Andrea Leigh Duncan and Eric C. Duncan; two grandchildren Brandon Littlefield and Nathan Semrau; and one great grandchild Isaac Littlefield; his ex-wife Myrna L. Duncan; his three sisters Lois Burns, Erma Hayes and Phyllis (Ron) Detmer; and many loving nieces and nephews.
