Richard Charles Evans, of Midvale, Utah, passed away on June 13, 2026 at the age of 66. He was born on May 5, 1960, in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK, to Ralph Grant Evans and Anna Moshinsky Evans, while his father was stationed in England with the United States Air Force.
Richard graduated from Layton High School in 1978. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at Utah State University and graduated in 1981. Richard received a commission as US Army officer from Utah State University ROTC, and served on Active Duty for 3 years, as an Armor Officer, at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He then had a career in Information Technology, working as a Software Engineer, Software Architect and Network Engineer. His employers included Park City Group, The Africa Center for Strategic Studies and the Utah Telehealth Network (at the University of Utah).
Richard had many hobbies and actively participated in several volunteer organizations. He enjoyed rock climbing (in his younger days), mountaineering, hiking and camping. He was involved with high-power rocketry and was a member of the Utah Rocket Club and the Tripoli Rocketry Association, where he served on the Level 3 Technical Advisory Panel. Richard enjoyed primitive archery (wooden bows, wooden arrows, no fancy sights) and was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, where he was awarded numerous accolades and served as a teacher and mentor for other archers. But Richard’s greatest love was Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America). He served them in a myriad of capacities over several decades, and in several different councils. His greatest achievement was his creation of the Omaha Beach-Normandy Historical Trail in 1991, while he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 457 in the Transatlantic Council (Brussels, Belgium).
Richard was a member of Congregation Kol Ami for 30 years and served on the Board of Directors, managed adult education, and volunteered in numerous capacities ranging from ushering to working at the Utah Food Bank to barbequing for visiting youth groups.
Richard is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Florence, daughters Stephanie and Rachel, brother David and sister Esther.
