Robert “Bob” Crawford Moss, a Korean War Veteran, successful businessman, beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and world traveler, died of heart failure, July 4, 2021, at home in Holladay, UT. He was 90 years old.
Bob was the husband of Utah State Representative Carol Spackman Moss.
He was born Dec. 22,1930, in Denver, CO, to Robert Allen and Marguerite Benz Moss. Reared in Ogden, UT, Bob graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. Bob fought in the Korean War and was proud to be an American.
He married Carol (Snarr) Spackman on Nov. 30, 1991, in Salt Lake City. He was the love of her life, best friend, traveling companion, and greatest supporter, campaigning for and accompanying her to countless public events. Other legislative spouses would often say they would attend if Bob would be there. He was always well-dressed, a lively conversationalist with an inviting smile and mischievous sense of humor. He genuinely loved people and worked tirelessly to enrich the lives of others.
A skilled skier and surfer, handsome Bob, a natural born salesman, was for many years a sales rep for White Stag, a premier ski and sportswear clothing company. After “retiring,” he worked for more than 20 years at The Home Depot where he enjoyed his co-workers and customers.
Bob and Carol shared a passion for traveling to such exotic places as Ethiopia, Egypt, China, Turkey, and Peru, but he was also content to be at home with Carol and their little dog, Sadie, watching the news, or binging on “Arrested Development.” Bob was a steady, quiet force in the lives of their children and grandchildren, who often sought his advice and welcomed his hugs.
Bob is survived by his wife Carol, mother-in-law, Cleo Murray, sons, Gregory (Bobi) Balaban, Costa Rica, and Jeff (Christine) Balaban, Laguna Niguel, CA; step-daughters, Shelley Spackman (Troy) Purser and Jill Spackman (Chris) Thackeray, both Salt Lake City, Heather Spackman (Luke) Rowland, Palos Verdes, CA, sister, Michal (Kent) Myers, San Leandro, CA, nephews Tim (Brenda), and Troy (Yvonne) Myers, CA, sisters-in-law, Colleen (Jeff) Mullins, Janet (Russ) Storbo, and six grandchildren, Zachary (Amber) and Nicholas (Reega) Balaban, Gage and Macy Rowland, Jesse Carlin, Max Thackeray, and a great-grandson arriving in September to Zach and Amber.
