Robert Ernst Vom Dorp

Robert “Bob” Ernst VomDorp, passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age of 91, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born, September 22, 1931, to Werner VomDorp and Hertha Niebuhr VomDorp, in Los Angeles, California. The eldest of two children, he grew up in the San Francisco Bay area where he graduated Alhambra High School, class of “49”, later attended the University of Utah. After graduation, he was employed by Bank of America which led to a lifetime profession in banking. Having a deep love for the ocean, he enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. He enjoyed recalling memories of his beloved ship, The USS Arequipa, and telling of his adventures at sea. As a dedicated member of the LDS Church he faithfully served in many callings throughout the years. Married Marilyn Ann Larsen and together had five children. Later married Janice Gayle Hepworth.

Bob will be remembered for his bright and positive outlook, his quick and contagious smile, for his love of family, for his passionate love affair with chocolate ice cream or anything dipped in dark chocolate. During his battle with dementia, he never lost his smile, his sense of humor and never forgot those he loved. Dad leaves an empty place in our hearts. He will be deeply missed.

Survived by his children, Annette (Brian) Schank, Barton Vom Dorp, Andrea Hatch, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, his sister Elinor (Ron) Hughes, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, his sisters-in-law, Winona Graves and Karen Wood, step children, Brenda Andreason, Greg D. Tanner, and their children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Janice, his parents, daughter Debra Parrish Schlenvogt, son Timothy Vom Dorp and son-in-law Robert Hatch.

A family celebration honoring his life was held. Interment at Lakeview Memorial, Bountiful, Utah.
