

Rolf W. Kay: Born March 18th, 1922 in Germany to Adolf and Rosine Kazenwadel. Rolf died peacefully in his sleep on January 4th, 2013 in Salt Lake City of natural causes indicative of age 90. Rolf immigrated to America with his parents and siblings in 1929, living first in New York, then on Long Island. The family moved to Utah in 1940. In 1942 Rolf joined the United States Army, shortly thereafter Rolf married Gladys Whetton on June 3rd, 1942, later divorced. Rolf was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945 as a First Lieutenant. Rolf worked for American Optical for nearly 40 years, starting as a messenger boy, to lens grinder, to salesman, to branch manager, and finally promoted major market manager. After retiring from the optical business, Rolf became serious about his favorite hobby of photography, which earned him a few dollars over the years; taking photos of the Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, Ballet West and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. Rolf married Nita Riley, who preceded him in death.
Rolf was also, proceeded in death by his parents, brothers; Fred, Erwin, Gunther, and sister Loretta Bundy.
Rolf is survived by his children Judi Streeter, Diane (John) Smith, and Jon (Cathy) Kay and his sister Hilda Olsen, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
