

Rosalie was born the youngest child and only daughter of Heaton Henry Randall and Mabel Maud Johnson on June 21, 1938 in Seattle, Washington. She enjoyed an active childhood mentored by two much older brothers. Her canine companions were always by her side. She spent summers visiting family in Montana where she became an accomplished equestrian. She competed in horse shows with her Arabian horse, Rex. In high school she developed her passion for social interaction and reaching out to her others in kindness. She enlivened many club activities, turning them into an event and was voted “best dancer “On a date, she was invited backstage to meet the rising star, Elvis Presley!
She welcomed the adventure of traveling across the country to attend college in Missouri at Stephens College where she participated in the equestrian program and earned an AA degree in English. Her love of writing was lifelong.
She married Don Russell Handley Jr in 1958 and they welcomed three wonderful children, Jennifer Lynn, Don Russell and Robert Randall. When they divorced, Rosalie returned to Seattle where she became a talented advertising copywriter.
In Seattle, she met fellow ad-man, Ronald “Buzz” Capener (father of Michael Legrand, Cole Randy and Corinne) and they built a “yours, mine and ours” family with Merrilee Christine arriving in 1970.
Rosalie and Buzz settled in Del Mar, CA where they opened a successful ad agency, The Capener Company. After Buzz died in 1995, Rosalie used her consummate social skills in a second career as a concierge in the thriving tourist scene in San Diego.
After retiring, Rosalie traveled and enjoyed living near family. Eventually she settled in Utah, maintaining a lively correspondence with her friends, cheering for her favorite basketball teams, and enjoying her Cocker Spaniel companion.
She passed away peacefully on March 19, 2023 due to complications of heart failure surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, their spouses and eighteen grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
A a celebration of life for Rosalie will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106.
