Our dear sweet Roy passed away March 17, 2016, after a year long illness. He was surrounded by his family that loved and adored him and who had been at his side to help care for him during this difficult time.
Born in Oslo, Norway to Wilford John Johansen and Astrid Larsen Johansen. Growing up in Norway, he enjoyed xc skiing, downhill ski jumping and soccer.
In 1948, at age 12, he and his family and paternal grandparents immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Salt Lake schools and graduated from West High, where he played varsity football. Attended and played football at Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, Colorado.
In 1959 he joined the U.S. Army, Armor Division and was stationed in Germany. During this time he also played football on his company team.
After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Utah and attended Salt Lake’s Trade Tech. He obtained his Journeyman’s Plumbers License and for many years owned and operated Johansen Plumbing & Heating in Park City, Utah.
In 1971 he married Denise Daniels, his sweetheart, best friend and constant companion. They moved to Park City, Utah, built a home and were blessed with two children, Jason Roy Johansen and Trisha Michele Johansen. He is adored by his children, son-in-law Robert Bagley and his grandchildren Emma, Brigham, Ali Jo and Izzy Bagley. In 1981 they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.
His life revolved around the church and he served faithfully in many ward and stake callings.
His favorite thing in life was time spent with his family. He loved traveling with them, especially his yearly Lake Powell trips. Roy loved being active, loved skiing, golfing, Mountain Dew, fishing, anytime, anywhere. He loved his Norwegian Heritage and his Norwegian relatives and his many friends. Most of all he loved being “Gpa”.
Survived by his wife Denise, his son Jason, daughter Trisha (Robert), grandchildren, brother-in-law Bruce Daniels, brother Terry (Arlene), children from previous marriage Lisa Simpson and Michael Johansen.
Roy was a kind, loving, hardworking and honest man. We will forever be blessed by his example in our lives.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Draper 1st Ward, 12300 S. 600 E., Draper, Utah, at 11:00 am. There will be a viewing an hour before at 10:00 am. Viewing Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Draper 1st Ward. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
