Samuel John Rino, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017, in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born March 12, 1920, in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Giovanni Rino and Lucia Tappero. After attending West High School, he served during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Later he attended Stevens-Henager College.
On December 28, 1948, he married Gladys Dean in Salt Lake City, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in November, 1949. He was an active member of the LDS church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who continually tended to the needs of family and friends. Professionally he was an insurance executive, Vice President of one company and CFO of the other. He was proud to serve as a leader of the Mills Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.
He is survived by his children Carol Joy Morgan (Bruce), Ralph (Terri), Douglas (Tina), Jeannine Briggs (Chad), 15 grandchildren, and 19 great- grandchildren, sisters Maxine Giovacchini (Joe) and Evelyn O’Donnell and brother Edward Rino (Linda).
He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart Gladys, parents, brother Bill Rino, sister Marie Rino, and son, Charles John Rino.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the East Millcreek 11th Ward, 2702 Evergreen Ave., SLC, UT. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services as well as on Wednesday, January 11, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, SLC, UT.
