Sally was born on December 23, 1937 in Portsmouth, VA to Elsie Leora and Andrew Dudley Culver. Soon after her birth, the family moved to San Diego and Sally always considered herself a native San Diegan.
Sally loved to dance, and she especially loved tap-dancing. She was a varsity cheerleader for the last graduating class of Helix High School in La Mesa in 1954. She attended San Diego State and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. After college, she worked as a teller at Central Federal, but she loved her career as a flight attendant for PSA, traveling the California coast in her four-inch heels. At the time, flight attendants could not be married, so Sally left PSA when she met the love of her life, William L. Loizeaux.
Sally and Bill were married on March 9, 1963. They enjoyed early married life living on Brighton Court in Mission Beach. When daughters Nicole and Denise were born, the family moved to Point Loma and Sally enjoyed raising her girls and playing tennis with her lady friends.
In 1978, the Loizeaux family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Sally made many new friends and was very active in her daughters’ lives and coached both of their soccer teams. She and Bill enjoyed family ski days and numerous camping and fishing trips throughout Utah. Sally loved traveling and seeing new places and she later returned to the skies and checked-off places around the globe she had always dreamed of seeing. Her yacht trips with her dear friends, “The Boat Ladies,” were very special to her and forever memorable. Sally especially loved her annual post ski season vacations with Bill to Ixtapa, Mexico. She was an easy-going, fun traveling companion and always shared her beautiful smile with everyone she met.
Sally’s greatest joy came from her granddaughter, Mara. Sally was a very attentive grandma and never missed Mara’s school performances or soccer games.
The family would like to thank Nicole and Si Sakhai for their loving care of Sally in her last few years.
Sally was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Andrew “Butch” Culver. Survived by her loving husband, William L. Loizeaux, daughters Nicole Loizeaux Sakhai and Denise Loizeaux, son-in-law Siroos Sakhai, granddaughter Mara Keller, and sister Patti Culver Harlow.
We will celebrate Sally’s life and share our memories later this year in San Diego.
