Salt Lake City, Utah - Sandy peacefully left us on Friday, August 1st, 2025 after a short illness. Born on July 27, 1943, to Carl and Mada Bodily in Bountiful, Utah, she graduated from Bountiful High School. Growing up, she enjoyed waterskiing at Bear Lake and learning to play the piano, which would be a constant for her throughout her life.
She married her sweetheart, Richard "Richie" / “Zeke” Zakotnik, on March 15th, 1963, and spent 62 wonderful years living in their home together in Millcreek, Utah. Together they raised four wonderful children and Sandy always treated her kid’s friends as her own. She raised her kids lovingly and as each went off to school, she worked as a nurse for 26 years. Her adoring attention expanded to each patient she met.
Sandy actively enjoyed watching sports, including the University of Utah football team and the Utah Jazz. Each day, she continued playing the piano, especially her favorite Beach Boys songs that she played with her fingers before passing. She hosted an annual Christmas Eve party where she cooked delicious dishes for dozens of guests using a single oven. Her favorite outing included eating coconut shrimp at Red Lobster and then returning to work on her beautiful flowers and “weeds” in the yard. Most of all, she adored the hummingbirds that she took care of during their visits.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Zakotnik, daughter Sherrill Hansen, son Wayne Zakotnik (Stacey), daughter Allison Miner (Kent), and son Ryan Van Horn-Zakotnik (Scott). Surrounded by eight Grandkids and twelve Great Grandkids, she loved each one so very much.
A viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday August 8th followed by services at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84106. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park
