Sheila Nancy White Privett, beloved wife, mother, and Grammy to her cherished grandchildren, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Sheila was born on March 3, 1946, to Floyd and Nellie White at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. As the youngest child and only daughter, arriving 16 years after her older brother, she was the baby girl her parents had long hoped for and was welcomed with immense joy from the very beginning.
A true "lifer", Sheila grew up in the Gilmer Park neighborhood and spent most of her life in the home where she was raised.
Sheila graduated from East High School in 1964 and was always proud to be an East High Leopard.
Sheila had a passion for cars. During her high school years, she enjoyed being part of a car club, cruising State Street, and stopping for sodas at the Frost Top.
Her love of cars came naturally as she grew up helping her father run the family business, White Auto Painting. This was where she began her first job at age 15, gaining valuable bookkeeping and office management skills that would serve her throughout her life. In 1981, Sheila began working for Granite School District, where she helped build the truancy program that remained in place for many decades. That same year, she began teaching ballroom dance through Granite Community School every Thursday night. For more than 40 years, she and her dance partner taught hundreds of people the joy of dancing, helping them learn to swing, waltz, line dance, and cha-cha across the dance floor.
Sheila was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Garden Park Ward. She served faithfully in many callings, including Relief Society, Primary, and Librarian. The calling that brought her the greatest joy was serving as Compassionate Service Leader. It was a perfect fit for Sheila, whose social nature, loving disposition, and genuine concern for others helped her comfort, support, and care for those around her in meaningful ways.
Sheila never met a stranger. She had a gift for bringing people together and building lasting friendships. Whether through her neighborhood dinner group, Family Home Evening group, movie nights, church activities, or countless visits with friends and neighbors, she found joy in creating connections and making others feel welcome. She was deeply loved in her neighborhood and cherished the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life.
Sheila enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, keeping a tidy home, and baking. She was especially known for her delicious cookies, brownies, fudge, rolls, and homemade bread. Her bread became a family favorite, and she lovingly used it to make "special sandwiches” for her grandchildren.
Above all, Sheila's greatest joy was being a mother to her three daughters, Stacy, Chantel, and Cherina.
A longtime friendship with Darrell Privett was rekindled through their shared love of Elvis Presley. With her charismatic charm and confidence, Sheila persuaded Darrell to begin attending church. Their friendship blossomed into love, and they were married on November 20, 2004, in the Garden Park Ward. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 23, 2012.
Through this marriage, Sheila welcomed Darrell's sons, Dustin and Darrin, into her family and was blessed with four additional grandchildren.
Whether by birth or through marriage, Sheila cherished her role as "Grammy" to all 13 of her grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering her family together, sharing stories and laughter, and creating treasured memories with those she loved most.
Sheila's legacy is one of kindness, service, friendship, faith, and love. She leaves behind a family and community who will forever be grateful for the countless ways she enriched their lives.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Darrell Privett; her children: Stacy (Bart) Bushell and their children, Caden (Aliana) great-grand daughter Tessa, Carson (Shayla), Ian (Michelle), and Hailey (Nefi); Chantel (Brian) Lichtenfels and their children, Bronson (Taisia), Sarah, Katie, and Alyssa; Cherina Reese and her daughter, Eva; Dustin Privett; Darrin (Kelly) Privett and their children, Aubrey, Dalin, Halle, and Delaney.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd White, Nellie Richins White, and her brother Tearle White.
