Shirlee was born January 3, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the first of six children and the only daughter of LeRoy Christian and Anne Mulder Glissmeyer.
With a gift of compassion, cheerfulness, and genuine love for family and friends, Shirlee blessed the lives of many as she gracefully went about serving others. Her brothers could not have had a better sister. She learned to love sports playing baseball with her brothers and cousins.
Raised in the West Capitol area of Salt Lake City, Shirlee attended the 24th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Washington Elementary School, Hoarce Mann Junior High School, and West High School where she was on the “E” Board as Girls’ Athletic Representative. She was on the Senior Council of WAG, in Leaders Club, and A Capella. At times she lived with beloved grandparents while attending the University of Utah.
Shirlee loved the out of doors and learned to hunt and fish with her father. She was an excellent marksman like her father. She was trained as a dental assistant and worked in the Judge Building where she was introduced to a charming dentist, Dr. Charles J. Hart, who was also an avid outdoorsman. They enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Three wonderful daughters came to this union, Julie, Cathie, and Leslie. They continued their outdoor adventures with their children and friends throughout their marriage including many years of horseback riding, boating and bowling. Though later divorced, Shirlee and Charles maintained a warm friendship through the years until his passing in 1999.
Shirlee and Charles built a modern home in Mt. Olympus Cove, that served as their family home for many family and friend gatherings and celebrations. She was an elegant hostess who made guests feel loved and welcomed to her home.
Shirlee served as President of both the Utah Dental Auxiliary and her Ex Libris Literary Book Club.
As the first grandchild on each side of the family, Shirlee enjoyed and continued close relationships with her grandmothers. She even traveled with her faithful grandmother in 1968 to ensure that Grete could return to visit her father in Germany.
When the children were raised, Shirlee worked with her brother Dave, the founder of ProTel Networks, to build the business and create an excellent Customer Service group. Shirlee enjoyed working with her daughter, Julie, and some of her nephews at ProTel.
Shirlee loved the Beatles, Musicals, Opera, horses, dogs, swimming, sunsets, traveling, hosting parties, bowling, golfing and playing bridge. She enjoyed socializing and walking as much as possible with friends and family in her community that she loved. She was extremely passionate about football, especially the Utes of her alma mater, the University of Utah.
