

Shirley Evans Coon (last of the bare back jockeys)! Our dearly beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully November 17, 2017. She will be greatly missed, but we are comforted that she was welcomed by her loving Father in Heaven and many family members whom have gone before.
Shirley was born on April 27, 1928 to Lee Robert Evans and Lucille Poulsen Evans in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Granite High School in 1946. After graduation she worked part-time as a fashion model at Z.C.M.I., the Paris Company and Keith O’Brien Department Stores. For two years she worked as a comptometer operator for Morrison Merrill Lumber Co. She married her childhood sweetheart, LaMar Walton Coon, January 13, 1949. They together had four very wonderful children that they are very proud of. She also, with LaMar, worked as a manufacturer’s representative for women’s clothing for about 55 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband LaMar, her wonderful daughter, Patty, who was tragically killed September 19, 1995, her beloved sister Jean and her parents.
Shirley is survived by Patty’s children Emery Reynolds and Michael Blanchard, son Dr. Gregory Steven Coon (Teresa) and their children Anne and Evan, daughter Debbie Augustine (Dean) and their children Melonie, Jon, Matt, Josh and Jordan, son Scott LaMar Coon and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be November 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm with a viewing November 24, 2017 from 6-8 pm and November 25, 2017 from 12:45-1:45 pm at Wasatch Memorial, 3401 S. Highland Dr.
The graveside dedication will immediately follow the funeral. Following the graveside services there will be dinner served at the Cottonwood Club, 1780 E. Lakewood Dr. (about 5450 S), Holladay, Utah.
