He spent his early years in Hyrum, where he graduated from South Cache High School. He then served in the Eastern States Mission, where he was delighted to perform in the Hill Cumorah Pageant for three consecutive years. Years later he returned to Palmyra with his wife Carol to perform in more pageants.
He met Carol Aldous while they were both attending the University of Utah and they married on September 11, 1957. They honeymooned at Bryce Canyon on their way to Mexico where they attended Mexico City College for a year. They returned to Utah and raised their seven children in their East Millcreek home, where they loved to host parties for family and friends.
After spending a hot, dusty summer attempting to dry farm in Hansel Valley, Burke (as he was known in his younger years in Cache Valley) decided farming was not for him, so he completed his degree and attempted several business ventures including a travel agency before settling into a career in real estate investments.
Stan loved to travel and he took his family on many road trips and other adventures. We will never forget our amazing summer of 1975 when we traveled to England and lived in a 300-year-old farmhouse out in the country. While there, he rented a van for our large family and we all nearly died on many occasions as he forgot to drive on the left side of the road. Other travel highlights include a raft trip through the Grand Canyon, and trips to the South Pacific and Holy Land.
Stan loved his vans. He was one of the first to embrace the 15-passenger van. They were great for our many road trips. After buying several Dodge vans, Stan and Carol were shocked to receive an invitation from Chrysler Dodge Corporation to travel to Hollywood to shoot a commercial for Chrysler with NBC Today Show host Joe Garagiola.
Stan was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and particularly enjoyed serving as the bishop of the Valley View 5th Ward. He loved visiting the members in their homes and ministering to them, and he always enjoyed working with the youth. He also served as a counselor in the Valley View Stake Presidency and as a tour guide at Temple Square. In his later years he was known for his zealous missionary work in the stake, and became affectionally known as Stan the Man.
He is survived by his daughters Lori (Steve) Spurrier, Lindsi (Zach) Wiseman, Luci Sorensen, and sons Pete and Eric (Sabrina) Petersen; his brother Claire (Maria Elena), 18 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carol June Aldous; his daughter Lisa Petersen Childs (Larry); his son Douglas; his parents Willard and Kate; and his brother Bill (Mary Belle)
Funeral services will he held Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Valley View Stake Chapel at 2245 E 3900 S 84109. The service will begin at 11:30, with a public viewing beginning at 10:00 am.
