

Stella Marganis Zaharias passed away May 21, 2021, at the age of 93. She was born in Salt Lake City in the home of her parents on North Temple. She was the third child of Angiliki Karageorge and Theodore Marganis. She graduated from West High and completed 1 ½ years at Westminster College. She married her childhood sweetheart Ernest Zaharias, they had 3 children.
Stella was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed her volunteer work with several organizations. She was an active member of Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron of Mt. Olympus Chapter #32, also the Grand Organist of the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star in 1980 and 1998. She was a Past Queen of Lybia Temple #23 of Daughters of the Nile and was the musician for both organizations for many years. She also volunteered at St. Mark’s Hospital in the gift shop for 12 years. She loved to paint. Her favorite work of art was a reproduction of her husband, Ernie, dressed in his clown suit for the Shriner’s Circus.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Ernie, and her four sisters Helen Janos (Nick), Elsie Chelemes (Sam), Emily Vasilion (Jim), Mary Melissas (George) and her grandson Andrew E. Day (Felicia Day). She is survived by her three children Lydia Day, Alexander Zaharias, Theodore Zaharias (Leslie Blackham), and sister-in-law Fofi Daly, 4 grandchildren Christina Smithie, Nicholas Zaharias, and Michiko Zaharias. She had 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Shriner’s Hospital or the Greek Orthodox Church. In Stella’s words, Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen and Kali Nichte, until we meet again.
