Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend
A Good and Faithful Servant
Steven S. Christensen passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 22, 2024, after battling health issues for the last few years. He was born in Provo, UT, the fifth of six children, to Merlin C. and Ruth E. Smith Christensen. His family moved frequently during childhood, creating lasting memories in Kansas City, KS, Blackfoot, ID, and Fairbanks, AK, where he attended high school.
Steve served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California South Mission, ever grateful for its impact on his life and inspiring his sons to serve missions. He later moved to Salt Lake City and studied at the University of Utah before meeting the love of his life, June Cutler. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and later settled in Sandy, UT, raising their three sons in a loving and supportive community.
Steve valued hard work. He began working at age 14, taking on various jobs before joining the United States Post Office as a clerk, a position he held until his retirement. This job provided stability for his family, laying the foundation for his children to attend college and thrive with their own families.
As an active member of the Church, Steve held many callings, including Cub Scout leader, Primary Teacher, Young Mens Instructor, Elders Quorum Instructor, High Priests Instructor, Sunday School President, and Assistant High Priest Group Leader. After his retirement, he dedicated himself to FamilySearch Indexing for many years. This work was a significant, yet humble, part of his life. He indexed nearly 2,000,000 family history records, paving the way for numerous people to complete their family trees.
Steven's love for his family was unwavering and evident in every moment he spent with them. He cherished his time with his sweetheart, June, and their shared love for vacations, concerts, baseball games, movies, and television. His regular calls to his siblings showed his commitment to staying connected. He shared many precious moments with his children and grandchildren, from family vacations at Powder Ridge Village to attending school/community performances and playing games like Yahtzee and Scrabble. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy of love will continue to inspire us all.
He is survived by his wife, June; his children Alan (Heidi), Brent (Beckie), and Scott (Carrie); eight grandchildren; and his brothers Laurie (Penny), David, and Rick (Terry). He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters June Anderson and Connie Walker, and nieces Rebecca Christensen and Tara Johnson.
