Susan Jean Herrscher Whipple was born in Mt Pleasant, UT on January 6th, 1946. She was nurtured and raised in the Salt Lake valley by the love of her dear Mother and Father, Jean Monsen and Paul Herrscher, Jr. She would become an older sister to four beloved brothers. Susan learned the value of family at a young age and cherished her immediate and extended family throughout the entirety of her life.
She married her sweetheart and eternal companion, William Scott Whipple, in the Salt Lake Temple on March 16, 1967. They had a strong desire to build and love a large family and would bring 9 children into this world. Each of their children has been blessed by the selfless way they have parented and loved. She was lovingly devoted to Scott and endlessly supported him behind the scenes to have a distinguished and successful career. He has been a wonderful, loving husband. Susan experienced intense health challenges over the last 20 years of her life. He was always by her side, providing tender care and support every step of the way.
Susan was an avid reader, talented writer and ardent fan of musical theater. She treasured her season tickets to Eccles’ Theatre and the few times she was able to make it to shows on Broadway. Nothing mattered more to Susan than supporting and loving her family. She had a special gift for making life magical and meaningful for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could make the most mundane parts of life feel special and vacations feel like a sacred gift. She carried on the beloved traditions of her parents and added her own special touch. We will always cherish our annual trips to Laguna Beach and know we will find her there.
Susan had a tremendous capacity to love and serve in a Christlike way. She had a tender ability to understand other people and gave in a way that touched and reinforced the best of who they were. Even as her physical body became more and more compromised, she continued to find meaningful ways to give and impact the lives of others.
Gift giving was one of her many love languages. She never missed an opportunity to shower loved ones with meaningful gifts and fun treats. She was a skilled and enthusiastic shopper, though she rarely bought things for herself.
Her relationship with her Heavenly Father was paramount to how she loved and lived her life. She served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony. She lived by faith, even as she endured physical strife and the heartbreak of losing two of her sons.
Survived by her husband, William Scott Whipple; children: Karen (Court) Coons, John (Amanda) Whipple, Jennifer (John) Owen, Rebecca (Mike) Chidsey, James (Jenn) Whipple, Richard (Dana) Whipple, Allen (Holly) Whipple, Daughter in Law, Char Whipple; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and brothers: David (Laurie), Douglas (Michele), Stephen (Heather) and Scott (Kelly); Preceded in death by her parents; & sons, Michael Whipple and Daniel Whipple.
